മലേഷ്യയിലെ ഏറ്റവും ജനസംഖ്യയുള്ള നഗരവും തലസ്ഥാനവുമാണ് കോലാലമ്പൂർ.[5] 243 km2 ([[ ച മൈ) വ്യാപിച്ചുകിടക്കുന്ന ഈ നഗരത്തിലെ ജനസംഖ്യ 2010-ൽ 15 ലക്ഷമായിരുന്നു.[6] മലേഷ്യൻ പാർലിമെന്റിന്റെ ആസ്ഥാനാമാണ് കോലാലമ്പൂർ. 1999 വരെ കോലാലമ്പൂർ ആസ്ഥാനമായി പ്രവർത്തിച്ചിരുന്ന കേന്ദ്രഗവണ്മെന്റിന്റെ എക്സിക്യൂട്ടീവ്, ജുഡീഷ്യൽ ബ്രാഞ്ചുകൾ പുത്രജയയിലേക്ക് മാറ്റി.[7] ജുഡീഷ്യറിയുടെ ചില ഭാഗങ്ങൾ, മലേഷ്യൻ രാജാവിന്റെ ആസ്ഥാനമായ ഇസ്താന നഗര എന്നിവ കോലാലമ്പൂരിൽ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നു.
