ചൈന ('ഔദ്യോഗിക നാമം: പീപ്പിൾസ് റിപബ്ലിക് ഓഫ് ചൈന.') ഏഷ്യൻ വൻകരയിലെ പ്രബല രാജ്യമാണ്. ലോകത്തിൽ ഏറ്റവും കൂടുതൽ ജനസംഖ്യയുള്ള രാജ്യമാണിത്. വലിപ്പത്തിന്റെ അടിസ്ഥാനത്തിൽ മൂന്നാമത്തെ[അവലംബം ആവശ്യമാണ്] രാജ്യവും. വിയറ്റ്നാം, ലാവോസ്, മ്യാന്മാർ, ഇന്ത്യ, ഭൂട്ടാൻ, നേപ്പാൾ, പാകിസ്താൻ, അഫ്ഗാനിസ്ഥാൻ, താജിക്കിസ്ഥാൻ, കിർഗിസ്ഥാൻ, കസാഖ്സ്ഥാൻ, റഷ്യ, മംഗോളിയ, ഉത്തര കൊറിയ എന്നിവയാണ് ചൈനയുടെ അയൽരാജ്യങ്ങൾ. 1949-ൽ നിലവിൽ വന്നതുമുതൽ ചൈനീസ് കമ്മ്യൂണിസ്റ്റ് പാർട്ടിയുടെ സർവാധിപത്യമാണ് ചൈനയിൽ. കമ്മ്യൂണിസ്റ്റ് രാജ്യമെന്ന് അറിയപ്പെടുന്നുണ്ടെങ്കിലും സ്വകാര്യ നിക്ഷേപവും പ്രോത്സാഹിപ്പിക്കപ്പെടുന്നുണ്ട്.

ഹൊനാൻ പ്രവിശ്യയിൽ വാണിരുന്ന ആദ്യ രാജവംശമാണ് ഷാങ്. കാലഘട്ടം ബി.സി 16ആം ശതകം മുതൽ 11ആം ശതകം വരെ. ഈ കാലഘട്ടത്തിൽ വൻനഗരങ്ങൾ നിർമ്മിയ്ക്കപ്പെട്ടിരുന്നു. വെങ്കലത്തിലുള്ള നിർമ്മാണവിദ്യ വശമായിരുന്നു. ഷാംങ് തീ എന്ന ദൈവത്തിന്റെ പിൻഗാമികളാണ് തങ്ങളെന്ന് ഇവർ അവകാശപ്പെടുന്നു. ശേഷം പല രാജവംശങ്ങളും ചൈന ഭരിച്ചു. ചില പ്രധാനപ്പെട്ട രാജവംശങ്ങൾ ചിൻ,ചൗ,ഹാൻ,സുയി,താങ്,സുങ്,യുവാൻ,മിങ്,മൻചു ഇവയാണ്.

ചൈനയുടെ വടക്കുപടിഞ്ഞാറൻ ഭാഗങ്ങളിൽ അതിശൈത്യവും തെക്ക്,മദ്ധ്യഭാഗങ്ങളിൽ കുറഞ്ഞ ശൈത്യവും അനുഭവപ്പെടുന്നു. കിഴക്ക് തെക്ക് പ്രദേശങ്ങളിൽ ചൂടാണ് അനുഭവപ്പെടുന്നത്. എന്നാൽ ഏറ്റവുമധികം ചൂടനുഭവപ്പെടുന്നത് വടക്ക് പടിഞ്ഞാറൻ മരുപ്രദേശങ്ങളിലാണ്. ശൈത്യമേറിയ മാസം ജനുവരിയും ചൂടേറിയ മാസം ജൂലായും ആണ്. ഇവിടെ ഏറ്റവും കൂടുതൽ ചുഴലിക്കാറ്റനുഭവപ്പെടുന്നത് ഓഗസ്റ്റ് മാസത്തിലാണ്.
