1976-ൽ ബെറ്റി വില്യംസിനൊപ്പം സമാധാന സംരംഭങ്ങൾക്കുളള നോബൽ സമ്മാനം നേടിയ വനിതയാണ് മയ്റീഡ് കോറിഗൻ. 1976-ലെ ഈ പുരസ്കാരം പ്രഖ്യാപിച്ചത് 1977-ലായിരുന്നു.അയർലൻഡിൽ സമാധാനത്തിനും അനുരഞ്ജനത്തിനുമായുളള അവരുടെ നിർഭയമായ പോരാട്ടമാണ് ലോകശ്രദ്ധ പിടിച്ചു പറ്റിയത്.[6]
ജീവിതരേഖ
[തിരുത്തുക]1944 ജനവരി 27-ന് ഉത്തര അയർലന്ഡിലെ ബെഫാസ്റ്റിൽ ഒരു ദരിദ്ര കുടുംബത്തിൽ റോമൻ കത്തോലിക്കാ സമൂഹത്തിലാണ് മാഗ്വയർ ജനിച്ചത്. അഞ്ചു സഹോദരിമാരും രണ്ടു സഹോദരന്മാരുമടങ്ങിയ വലിയ കുടുംബമായിരുന്നു മയ്റീഡിന്റേത്. മാതാപിതാക്കൾ ആൻഡ്രൂ, മാർഗരറ്റ് കോറിഗൻ എന്നിവരായിരുന്നു.[7][8] 14 വയസ്സ് വരെ ഒരു സ്വകാര്യ കത്തോലിക്കാ സ്കൂളായ സെന്റ് വിൻസെന്റ് പ്രൈമറി സ്കൂളിൽ പഠിച്ചു., ആ സമയത്ത് അവളുടെ കുടുംബത്തിന് സ്കൂൾ വിദ്യാഭ്യാസത്തിന് പണം നൽകാൻ കഴിയുമായിരുന്നില്ല. ഒരു കത്തോലിക്കാ കമ്മ്യൂണിറ്റി സെന്ററിൽ ബേബി സിറ്ററായി കുറച്ചുകാലം ജോലി ചെയ്ത ശേഷം, മിസ് ഗോർഡൻസ് കൊമേഴ്സ്യൽ കോളേജിൽ ഒരു വർഷത്തെ ബിസിനസ് ക്ലാസുകളിൽ ചേരുന്നതിന് ആവശ്യമായ പണം ലാഭിക്കാൻ അവർക്ക് കഴിഞ്ഞു. പതിനാറു വയസു മുതൽ ടൈപ്പിസ്റ്റായും സെക്രട്ടറിയായും ജോലി നോക്കി. പിന്നീട് ബെറ്റി വില്യംസിനോടൊപ്പം സമാധാന സംരംഭങ്ങളിലേർപ്പെട്ടു.

Maguire was born into a Catholic community in Belfast on 27 January 1944, the daughter of a window cleaner father and housewife mother, growing up with five sisters and two brothers.

In September, 1981, Mairead married Jackie Maguire, widower of her sister Anne, who never recovered from the loss of her children and died in January, 1980. In addition to the remaining three children from the earlier marriage – Mark, Joanne and Marie Louise – Mairead and Jackie are the parents of John and Luke.

Mairead was a co-founder of the Committee on the Administration of Justice, a non-sectarian organisation of Northern Ireland which defends human rights and advocates repeal of the government's emergency laws.
