സൗജന്യമായി ചിത്രങ്ങളും വീഡിയോകളും (15 സെക്കന്റ് ദൈർഘ്യമുള്ള) പങ്കു വെയ്ക്കുന്നതിനു വേണ്ടി 2010 ഒക്ടോബറിൽ പുറത്തിറങ്ങിയ ഒരു സോഷ്യൽ നെറ്റ്വർക്കിംഗ് വെബ്‌സൈറ്റാണ് ഇൻസ്റ്റാഗ്രാം. ഉപയോക്താക്കൾക്ക് ഫോട്ടോ എടുക്കുന്നതിനും, ആവശ്യമായ ഡിജിറ്റൽ മാറ്റങ്ങൾ വരുത്തുന്നതിനും, ഇൻസ്റ്റാഗ്രാമിന്റേതടക്കമുള്ള നിരവധി സോഷ്യൽ നെറ്റ്വർക്കിംഗ് സൈറ്റുകളിലേക്ക് അപ്‌ലോഡ് ചെയ്യുന്നതിനും ഇതിലൂടെ സാധിക്കും[5].
ആദ്യം ഐഫോൺ, ഐപാഡ്, ഐപോഡ് ടച്ച് എന്നിവയിൽ മാത്രമായിരുന്നു ഇൻസ്റ്റാഗ്രാം പിന്തുണ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നത്. 2012 ഏപ്രിൽ മാസത്തിൽ കമ്പനി ആൻഡ്രോയ്ഡ് 2.2 (ഫ്രോയോ) യോ അതിനു മുകളിലോ ഉള്ള ആൻഡ്രോയ്ഡ് ഓപ്പറേറ്റിംഗ് സിസ്റ്റങ്ങളിൽ പ്രവർത്തിക്കുന്ന മൊബൈൽ ഫോണുകളിലും ഇത് സജ്ജമാക്കി. ഐട്യൂൺസ് ആപ്പ് സ്റ്റോർ വഴിയും, ഗൂഗ്‌ൾ പ്ലേ വഴിയുമാണ് ഇത് വിതരണം ചെയ്യപ്പെടുന്നത്[6].
2012 ഏപ്രിൽ 12-നു് ഈ കമ്പനിയെയും അതിലെ 13 ജീവനക്കാരെയും ഫേസ്ബുക്ക് സ്വന്തമാക്കി[7]. ഏതാണ്ട് 1 ബില്യൺ ഡോളറിനാണ് ഫേസ്ബുക്ക് ഈ കമ്പനിയെ സ്വന്തമാക്കിയത്. നിലവിൽ ഈ കമ്പനി പ്രത്യേകമായി പ്രവർത്തിക്കുമെന്നാണ് ഫേസ്ബുക്ക് അറിയിക്കുന്നത്[8].
