ഇന്ത്യക്കാരനായ ഒരു രോഗപ്രതിരോധശാസ്ത്രജ്ഞനും നാഷണൽ ഇൻസ്റ്റിറ്റ്യൂട്ട് ഓഫ് ഇമ്മ്യൂണോളജിയിലെ എമെറിറ്റസ് സയന്റിസ്റ്റുമാണ് സതീഷ് കുമാർ ഗുപ്ത (ജനനം: 20 ഏപ്രിൽ 1953). [1] തന്റെ പ്രത്യുത്പാദന രോഗപ്രതിരോധശാസ്ത്രഗവേഷണങ്ങളാൽ അറിയപ്പെടുന്ന [2] ഗുപ്ത ഇന്ത്യൻ അക്കാദമി ഓഫ് സയൻസസ്, [3] നാഷണൽ അക്കാദമി ഓഫ് സയൻസസ്, ഇന്ത്യ [4], ഇന്ത്യൻ നാഷണൽ സയൻസ് അക്കാദമി [5] എന്നീ ഇന്ത്യൻ സയൻസ് അക്കാദമില്ലിലും തെരഞ്ഞെടുക്കപ്പെട്ട ഫെലോയാണ്.ബയോടെക്നോളജി വകുപ്പിന്റെ ജെസി ബോസ് ഫെലോയും [6] നാഷണൽ അക്കാദമി ഓഫ് മെഡിക്കൽ സയൻസസിലെ ഫെലോയും ആണ്. [7] ശാസ്ത്ര ഗവേഷണത്തിനായുള്ള ഇന്ത്യാ ഗവൺമെന്റിന്റെ പരമോന്നത ഏജൻസിയായ കൗൺസിൽ ഓഫ് സയന്റിഫിക് ആൻഡ് ഇൻഡസ്ട്രിയൽ റിസർച്ച് അദ്ദേഹത്തിന് ശാസ്ത്ര സാങ്കേതിക വിദ്യയ്ക്കുള്ള ശാന്തി സ്വരൂപ് ഭട്നഗർ സമ്മാനം നൽകി.[8]

ജീവചരിത്രം[തിരുത്തുക]

എയിംസ്, ദില്ലി

1953 ഏപ്രിൽ 20 ന് ഹരിയാനയിലെ ചച്രൗലിയിൽ ഗുർ പ്രസാദ് ഗുപ്ത, സത്യ റാണി എന്നിവരുടെ മകനായി ജനിച്ച എസ് കെ ഗുപ്ത ദില്ലി സർവകലാശാലയിൽ ആദ്യകാല കോളേജ് പഠനം നടത്തി. അവിടെ നിന്ന് ബിരുദാനന്തര ബിരുദം (ബിഎസ്‌സി) നേടി. [5] ദില്ലിയിലെ ഓൾ ഇന്ത്യ ഇൻസ്റ്റിറ്റ്യൂട്ട് ഓഫ് മെഡിക്കൽ സയൻസസിലേക്ക് മാറിയ അദ്ദേഹം ബിരുദാനന്തര ബിരുദം പൂർത്തിയാക്കി നാഷണൽ ഇൻസ്റ്റിറ്റ്യൂട്ട് ഓഫ് ഇമ്മ്യൂണോളജിയിൽ റിസർച്ച് ഓഫീസറായി ഔദ്യോഗിക ജീവിതം ആരംഭിച്ചു. [9] ഈ കാലയളവിൽ എയിംസിൽ ഒരേസമയം ഡോക്ടറൽ പഠനം നടത്തിയ അദ്ദേഹം 1983 ൽ പിഎച്ച്ഡി നേടി. [10] എൻ‌ഐ‌ഐയിൽ, ഗെയിംറ്റ് ആന്റിജൻ ലബോറട്ടറിയുടെ തലവൻ ഉൾപ്പെടെ വിവിധ പദവികൾ വഹിച്ചു. സൂപ്പർ‌ഇൻ‌യുനേഷനുശേഷം അദ്ദേഹം സ്ഥാപനത്തിലെ എമെറിറ്റസ് ശാസ്ത്രജ്ഞനായി സേവനം അനുഷ്ഠിക്കുന്നു. ഗുപ്ത റിതയെ വിവാഹം കഴിച്ചു, ദമ്പതികൾക്ക് ആഷിഷ്, മനീഷ് എന്നീ രണ്ട് ആൺമക്കളുണ്ട്. ന്യൂഡൽഹിയിലെ എൻഐഐ കാമ്പസിലാണ് കുടുംബം താമസിക്കുന്നത്. [4]

ഗുപ്തയുടെ പ്രധാന ഗവേഷണം പ്രത്യുൽപാദന ബയോളജി മേഖലയിലാണ് മനുഷ്യ ഹോർമോണുകളുടെ ഹ്യൂമൻ കോറിയോണിക് ഗോണഡോട്രോപിൻ, ഗോണഡോട്രോപിൻ-റിലീസ് ചെയ്യുന്ന ഹോർമോൺ എന്നിവയ്ക്ക് പ്രത്യുൽപാദന പ്രവർത്തനങ്ങളിലുള്ള പങ്കിനെക്കുറിച്ചുള്ള പഠനങ്ങൾ നടത്തിയതിൽ അദ്ദേഹം പ്രശസ്തനാണ്.[5] സസ്തനികളുടെ ഓസൈറ്റുകളുടെ പ്ലാസ്മ മെംബറേൻ പൊതിഞ്ഞ ഗ്ലൈക്കോപ്രോട്ടീന്റെ ഒരു പാളിയായ സോണ പെല്ലുസിഡയെക്കുറിച്ച് അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ നേതൃത്വത്തിലുള്ള സംഘം വിശദമായ അന്വേഷണം നടത്തിയിട്ടുണ്ട് [10] ഈ പഠനങ്ങൾ രോഗപ്രതിരോധ പ്രോട്ടോക്കോളുകൾ വികസിപ്പിക്കാനുള്ള ശ്രമങ്ങളെ സഹായിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. [14] ഗുർസാരൻ തൽവാറിനൊപ്പം ഇന്ത്യയിൽ ഹൈബ്രിഡോമ സാങ്കേതികവിദ്യയ്ക്ക് തുടക്കമിട്ട അദ്ദേഹം എച്ച്ഐവി -1, എച്ച്ഐവി -2 അണുബാധകൾ, ഗ്രൂപ്പ് എ സ്ട്രെപ്റ്റോകോക്കൽ അണുബാധ, ഗർഭം കണ്ടെത്തൽ എന്നിവയ്ക്കായി ഡയഗ്നോസ്റ്റിക് കിറ്റുകൾ രൂപകൽപ്പന ചെയ്തിട്ടുണ്ട്. അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ ഗവേഷണങ്ങൾ നിരവധി ലേഖനങ്ങളിലൂടെ രേഖപ്പെടുത്തിയിട്ടുണ്ട് [15] അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ കൃതികൾ നിരവധിയിടങ്ങളിൽ അവലംബങ്ങൾ ആയിട്ടുണ്ട്. ഗുപ്ത 2005 ൽ മെഡിക്കൽ റിസർച്ച് ഇന്ത്യൻ കൗൺസിലിന്റെ സയന്റിഫിക് ഉപദേശക സമിതി ഇരുന്നിട്ടുണ്ട്[21], കൂടാതെ 2013-ൽ ബയോടെക്നോളജി വകുപ്പിന്റെ എക്സ്പേർട്ട് ഗ്രൂപ്പ് ഓൺ റീപ്രൊഡക്ടീവ് ഹെൽത് ആന്റ് ബയോളജിയുടെ തലവനായും പ്രവർത്തിച്ചു.[22] ഇമ്മ്യൂണോളജി ഫൗണ്ടേഷന്റെ ട്രസ്റ്റി,[23] ഇന്ത്യൻ ഇമ്മ്യൂണോളജി സൊസൈറ്റി [24] അംഗം, ഇന്റർനാഷണൽ സൊസൈറ്റി ഫോർ ഇമ്മ്യൂണോളജി ഓഫ് റീപ്രൊഡക്ഷൻ (1998–2004) അംഗം എന്നീ സ്ഥാനങ്ങൾ വഹിക്കുന്നു. [25] 1998 ഒക്ടോബറിൽ ന്യൂഡൽഹിയിൽ നടന്ന VII ഇന്റർനാഷണൽ കോൺഗ്രസ് ഓഫ് റീപ്രൊഡക്ടീവ് ഇമ്മ്യൂണോളജിയുമായി സഹകരിച്ചു.[26] റിപ്രൊഡക്ടീവ് ബയോമെഡിസിൻ ഓൺ‌ലൈൻ, ജേണൽ ഓഫ് റീപ്രൊഡക്ടീവ് ഇമ്മ്യൂണോളജി ആൻഡ് റീപ്രൊഡക്ടീവ് ബയോളജി ആൻഡ് എൻ‌ഡോക്രൈനോളജി [5] എന്നിവയുടെ എഡിറ്റോറിയൽ ബോർഡുകളിലെ മുൻ അംഗമാണ് അദ്ദേഹം. ഇന്ത്യൻ ജേണൽ ഓഫ് എക്സ്പിരിമെന്റൽ ബയോളജി [27], ഇന്ത്യൻ ജേണൽ ഓഫ് മെഡിക്കൽ റിസർച്ച് എന്നിവയുടെ എഡിറ്റോറിയൽ ബോർഡുകളിൽ ഇരിക്കുന്നു. അവാർഡുകളും ബഹുമതികളും[തിരുത്തുക]

1982-ൽ ഗുപ്തയ്ക്ക് ഇന്ത്യൻ നാഷണൽ സയൻസ് അക്കാദമിയുടെ യുവ ശാസ്ത്രജ്ഞർ മെഡൽ ലഭിച്ചു.[29] മെഡിക്കൽ റിസർച്ച് ഇന്ത്യൻ കൗൺസിലിന്റെ ശകുന്തള അമീർ ചന്ദ് സമ്മാനം 1984 ലും [10] ഒരു പതിറ്റാണ്ടിനുശേഷം 1994 ലെ വാസ്വിക് ഇൻഡസ്ട്രിയൽ റിസർച്ച് അവാർഡും ലഭിച്ചു. [30] കൗൺസിൽ ഓഫ് സയന്റിഫിക് ആൻഡ് ഇൻഡസ്ട്രിയൽ റിസർച്ച് അദ്ദേഹത്തിന് 1997 ലെ ഏറ്റവും ഉയർന്ന ഇന്ത്യൻ സയൻസ് അവാർഡുകളിലൊന്നായ ശാന്തി സ്വരൂപ് ഭട്നഗർ സമ്മാനം [31] ലാബ്‌സെത്വർ ഫൗണ്ടേഷന്റെ പോപ്പുലേഷൻ കൺട്രോൾ ആൻഡ് ഫാമിലി പ്ലാനിംഗ് അവാർഡും 2011 ലെ റാൻബാക്സി റിസർച്ച് അവാർഡും അദ്ദേഹം നേടിയിട്ടുണ്ട്. നാഷണൽ അക്കാദമി ഓഫ് മെഡിക്കൽ സയൻസസ് 1994 ൽ അദ്ദേഹത്തെ ഒരു ഫെലോ ആയി തിരഞ്ഞെടുത്തു [32] തുടർന്ന് 1997 ൽ ഇന്ത്യൻ അക്കാദമി ഓഫ് സയൻസസും [3] 2001 ൽ ഇന്ത്യൻ നാഷണൽ സയൻസ് അക്കാദമിയുടെ ഫെലോ ആയി. [33] 2005 ൽ നാഷണൽ അക്കാദമി ഓഫ് മെഡിക്കൽ സയൻസസിന്റെയും ഫെലോ ആയി.
