പൂന്തോട്ട ചരിത്രത്തിൽ പ്രാധാന്യമുള്ള സ്ഥലങ്ങളിലേക്കോ, ബൊട്ടാണിക്കൽ ഗാർഡനുകളിലേക്കോ ഉള്ള യാത്രകൾ ഉൾപ്പെടുന്ന ഒരുതരം വിനോദസഞ്ചാരമാണ് ഗാർഡൻ ടൂറിസം. 2000 ൽ അൽഹമ്‌റയും താജ്മഹലും രണ്ട് ദശലക്ഷത്തിലധികം ആളുകൾ സന്ദർശിച്ചു. 2018-19 കാലയളവിൽ 6.9 മില്യൺ ആളുകളാണ് താജ് മഹൽ സന്ദർശിച്ചത്.[1]

തുടക്കത്തിൽ, ഇംഗ്ലണ്ടിലെയും വെയിൽസിലെയും ഉദ്യാന പര്യടനത്തിൽ ദേശീയ ഉദ്യാന പദ്ധതി പ്രകാരം സന്ദർശകരെ സ്വീകരിക്കാത്ത സ്വകാര്യ ഉദ്യാനങ്ങളും പൂന്തോട്ടങ്ങളും ആണ് ഉൾപ്പെട്ടിരുന്നത്. ഗാർഡൻസ് ഓഫ് ഇംഗ്ലണ്ട് ആൻ്റ് വെയിൽസും ഓപ്പൺ ഫോർ ചാരിറ്റിയും ('യെല്ലോ ബുക്ക്') ഇംഗ്ലണ്ടിലെയും വെയിൽസിലെയും പൂന്തോട്ടങ്ങൾ സന്ദർശിക്കാൻ ആഗ്രഹിക്കുന്നവർക്കായി ഒരു ഗൈഡ് പുസ്തകമായി പ്രവർത്തിച്ചു.[2] 1931 ൽ "കൺട്രി ലൈഫ്" എന്ന ബ്രിട്ടീഷ് മാസികയുടെ അനുബന്ധമായി യെല്ലോ ബുക്കിന്റെ ആദ്യ ലക്കം പ്രസിദ്ധീകരിച്ചു. എൽസി വാദ് ചാരിറ്റിയും ഗാർഡൻ ടൂറും ഒരുമിപ്പിച്ച് നാഷണൽ ഗാർഡൻ സ്കീം എന്ന ആശയം അവതരിപ്പിച്ചതിൽ പിന്നെ യുകെയിൽ ഗാർഡൻ ടൂറുകൾ പ്രചാരത്തിലായി.[3]

ഗാർഡൻ ടൂറുകളും സാഹിത്യവും[തിരുത്തുക]

പൂന്തോട്ടങ്ങളെക്കുറിച്ചുള്ള തന്റെ മതിപ്പ് രേഖപ്പെടുത്തിയ ആദ്യകാല ഗാർഡൻ ടൂറിസ്റ്റുകളിൽ ഒരാളായിരുന്നു മൈക്കൽ ഡി മോണ്ടെയ്ൻ (c1580).[i] ഫൈനസ് മോറിസൺ ചെയ്തതുപോലെ ജോൺ എവ്‌ലിനും ഫ്രാൻസിലെയും ഇറ്റലിയിലെയും ഉദ്യാനങ്ങൾ സന്ദർശിച്ചതായി രേഖപ്പെടുത്തിയിട്ടുണ്ട്.[ii] മാഗി കാമ്പ്‌ബെൽ-കൽവർ, ജോൺ എവ്‌ലീൻ സന്ദർശിച്ചിരുന്ന ഉദ്യാനങ്ങളിൽ നിന്നുള്ളള വിവരങ്ങൾ കൂടി അടിസ്ഥാനമാക്കി അവരുടെ ഒരു ജീവചരിത്രം എഴുതി.[7]

ഇരുപത്തിയൊന്നാം നൂറ്റാണ്ടിന്റെ തുടക്കത്തിൽ, ഉദ്യാന പര്യടനങ്ങളുടെ 100 വർഷത്തിലധികം ചരിത്രമുള്ള ബ്രിട്ടനിൽ ഏറ്റവും കൂടുതൽ ഉദ്യാനങ്ങൾ വിനോദസഞ്ചാര സന്ദർശനങ്ങൾക്കായി പൊതുജനങ്ങൾക്കായി തുറന്നിട്ടുണ്ട്. 2013 ൽ 3,700 ഉദ്യാനങ്ങൾ ഗാർഡൻസ് ഓഫ് ഇംഗ്ലണ്ട് ആൻ്റ് വെയിൽസ് ഓപ്പൺ ചാരിറ്റിയിൽ പട്ടികപ്പെടുത്തിയിട്ടുണ്ട്.[3]
