ന്യൂയോർക്ക് യൂണിവേഴ്സിറ്റി (NYU) ലോകത്തെമ്പാടുമായി വ്യാപിച്ചുകിടക്കുന്ന ഒരു സ്വകാര്യ ഗവേഷണ സർവ്വകലാശാലയാണ്. 1831-ൽ സ്ഥാപിതമായ ഈ സർവ്വകലാശാലയുടെ ചരിത്രപ്രാധാന്യമുള്ള കാമ്പസ് ന്യൂയോർക്ക് നഗരത്തിലെ ഗ്രീൻവിച്ച് വില്ലേജിലാണു സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നത്.[12][13] ഒരു ആഗോള സർവ്വകലാശാല എന്ന നിലയിൽ, വിദ്യാർത്ഥികൾക്ക് സർവ്വകലാശാലയുടെ ബിരുദ ദാന കാമ്പസുകളായ NYU അബൂദാബി, NYU ഷാങ്ഘായ് എന്നിവിടങ്ങിൽനിന്നും ബിരുദം നേടുവാനും അതുപോലെതന്നെ അക്ര, ബെർലിൻ, ബ്യൂണസ് അയേഴ്സ്, ഫ്ലോറൻസ്, ലണ്ടൻ, ലോസ് ഏഞ്ചൽസ്, മാഡ്രിഡ്, പാരിസ്, പ്രാഗ്, സിഡ്നി, ടെൽ അവീവ്, വാഷിംഗ്ടൺ ഡി.സി. എന്നിവിടങ്ങളിലായുള്ള 12 അക്കാദമിക് സെന്ററുകളിൽ‌ പഠനം നടത്തുവാനും സാധിക്കുന്നു.[14][15][16]

2018 ൽ അക്കാദമിക് റാങ്കിംഗ് ഓഫ് വേൾഡ് യൂണിവേഴ്സിറ്റീസ്, ടൈംസ് ഹയർ എജ്യൂക്കേഷൻ വേൾഡ് യൂണിവേഴ്സിറ്റി റാങ്കിംഗ്സ്, യു.എസ്. ന്യൂസ് & വേൾ‌ഡ് റിപ്പോർട്ട് എന്നിവയുടെ റാങ്കിംഗ് അനുസരിച്ച്, ന്യൂയോർക്ക് യൂണിവേഴ്സിറ്റി ആഗോളതലത്തിൽ ഏറ്റവും മികച്ച 30 സർവ്വകലാശാലകളുടെ പട്ടികയിൽ ഇടംപിടിച്ചിരുന്നു.[17][18][19] 2018 അവസാനത്തിൽ കലാലയ പ്രവേശനത്തിനായി ഇവിടെ ലഭിച്ച അപേക്ഷകളിൽ അണ്ടർ ഗ്രാജ്വറ്റ് പ്രോഗ്രാമുകൾക്കായി മാത്രം ഏകദേശം 75,037  അപേക്ഷകളാണ്  ലഭിച്ചത്.[20] അമേരിക്കൻ ഐക്യനാടുകളിലെ മറ്റേതൊരു സ്വകാര്യ സ്വകാര്യ കോളജിലെയോ സർവ്വകലാശാലകളിലേയോ അപേക്ഷകളേക്കാളും അധികമായരുന്നു ഇത്.

ഇവിടുത്തെ പൂർവ്വവിദ്യാർത്ഥികളിൽ രാഷ്ട്രത്തലവൻമാർ, രാജപദവിയിലുള്ളവർ, പ്രഗത്ഭ ശാസ്ത്രജ്ഞർ, കണ്ടുപിടിത്തക്കാർ, സംരംഭകർ, മാദ്ധ്യമ ശ്രദ്ധ നേടിയവർ, സ്ഥാപകർ, ഫോർച്ചൂൺ 500 പട്ടികയിലെ കമ്പനികളുടെ സ്ഥാപകരും സി.ഇ.ഓ.മാരും ബഹിരാകാശ സഞ്ചാരികൾ തുടങ്ങി വിവിധ മേഖലകളിലുള്ളവർ ഉൾപ്പെടുന്നു.[21][22][23] 2018 വരെ 37 നോബൽ സമ്മാന ജേതാക്കൾ,  7 ടേണിംഗ് പുരസ്കാര ജേതാക്കൾ, 30 അക്കാദമി പരസ്കാര ജേതാക്കൾ, 30 പുലിറ്റ്സർ സമ്മാന ജേതാക്കൾ, നൂറുകണക്കിന് നാഷണൽ അക്കാദമീസ് ഓഫ് സയൻസസിലേയും, യുണൈറ്റഡ് സ്റ്റേറ്റ്സ് കോൺഗ്രസിലേയും അംഗങ്ങൾ എന്നിവർ ഇവിടുത്തെ വൈജ്ഞാനികശാഖയിലോ പൂർവ്വ വിദ്യാർത്ഥികളുടെ പട്ടികയിലോ അംഗങ്ങളായിരുന്നു. ടൈംസ് ഹയർ എജ്യുക്കേഷൻ വേൾഡ് യൂണിവേഴ്സിറ്റി റാങ്കിംഗിൽ, ആഗോളതലത്തിൽ പൂർവ്വ വിദ്യാർത്ഥികളായ കോടീശ്വരന്മാരെ സംഭാവന ചെയ്ത സർവ്വകലശാലകളുടെ പട്ടികയിൽ  ന്യൂയോർക്ക് സർവ്വകലാശാലക്ക് ഏഴാം സ്ഥാനവും പൂർവ്വവിദ്യാർത്ഥികളായ മഹാകോടീശ്വരന്മാരെ സംഭാവന ചെയ്ത സർവ്വകലാശാലകളിലെ വെൽത്ത്-എക്സ് ന്റെ പട്ടികയിൽ ഇതിനു നാലാം സ്ഥാനവുമാണുള്ളത്.[24][25][26][27]
