(ഔദ്യോഗിക നാമം: ഡെമോക്രാറ്റിക്ക് റിപ്പബ്ലിക്ക് ഓഫ് റ്റിമോർ-ലെസ്റ്റെ, അഥവാ റ്റിമോർ-ലെസ്റ്റെ). റ്റിമോർ ദ്വീപിന്റെ കിഴക്കേ പകുതി, അതൌറോ ദ്വീപ്, ജാക്കോ ദ്വീപ്, ഇന്തൊനേഷ്യൻ വെസ്റ്റ് ടിമോർ ദ്വീപിനുള്ളിൽ ഒറ്റപ്പെട്ട പ്രദേശമായ ഊക്കുസി-അംബേനോ എന്ന ഭാഗം എന്നിവ ചേർന്നതാണ് ഈസ്റ്റ് ടിമോർ. ആസ്ത്രേലിയയിലെ ഡാർ‌വ്വിൻ എന്ന വടക്കുപടിഞ്ഞാറൻ പ്രദേശത്തുനിന്നും ഏകദേശം 400 മൈൽ (640 കിലോമീറ്റർ‌‌) അകലെയാണ് ഈസ്റ്റ് ടിമോർ. 5,376 ച.മൈൽ (14,609 ച.കി.മീ) ആണ് ഈസ്റ്റ് റ്റിമോറിന്റെ വിസ്തീർണ്ണം.

പോർച്ചുഗൽ 16-ആം നൂറ്റാണ്ടിൽ കോളനിയാക്കിയ ഈസ്റ്റ് ടിമോർ നൂറ്റാണ്ടുകളോളം പോർച്ചുഗീസ് ടിമോർ എന്ന് അറിയപ്പെട്ടു. ഇന്തോനേഷ്യ 1975-ൽ ഈസ്റ്റ് ടിമോറിനെ ആക്രമിച്ച് കീഴടക്കി. 1976-ൽ ഇന്തോനേഷ്യ ഈസ്റ്റ് ടിമോറിനെ ഇന്തോനേഷ്യയുടെ 27-ആം പ്രവിശ്യ ആയി പ്രഖ്യാപിച്ചു. 1999-ൽ ഐക്യരാഷ്ട്രസഭയുടെ ആഭിമുഖ്യത്തിൽ നടത്തിയ സ്വയം നിർണ്ണയാവകാശ പ്രക്രിയയെ തുടർന്ന് ഇന്തോനേഷ്യ ഈസ്റ്റ് ടിമോറിന്റെ മുകളിലുള്ള നിയന്ത്രണം അവസാനിപ്പിച്ചു. 2002 മെയ് 20-നു ഈസ്റ്റ് ടിമോർ 21-ആം നൂറ്റാണ്ടിലെയും മൂന്നാം സഹസ്രാബ്ദത്തിലെയും ആദ്യത്തെ പുതിയ സ്വതന്ത്രരാജ്യമായി. ഫിലിപ്പീൻസും ഈസ്റ്റ് ടിമോറുമാണ് ജനസംഖ്യയുടെ ഭൂരിഭാഗവും റോമൻ കത്തോലിക്കർ ഉള്ള ഏഷ്യയിലെ രണ്ടു രാജ്യങ്ങൾ.

800$ മാത്രം പ്രതിശീർഷ ജി.ഡി.പി ഉള്ള ഈസ്റ്റ് റ്റിമോർ ലോകത്തെ തന്നെ ഏറ്റവും താഴ്ന്ന പ്രതിശീർഷ ജി.ഡി.പി (പി.പി.പി) ഉള്ള രാജ്യങ്ങളിൽ ഒന്നാണ്.[1]. എങ്കിലും ഈസ്റ്റ് ടിമോറിന്റെ മാനവ വികസന സൂചിക (എച്ച്.ഡി.ഐ) താരതമ്യേന ശരാശരി മാനവ വികസനത്തെ സൂചിപ്പിക്കുന്നു. ലോകരാഷ്ട്രങ്ങളുടെ മാനവ വികസന സൂചിക അനുസരിച്ചുള്ള പട്ടികയിൽ ഈസ്റ്റ് ടിമോറിന്റെ സ്ഥാനം 142 ആണ്.
