യൂറോപ്പും വടക്കേ അമേരിക്കയും തദ്ദേശവാസിയായ സാംബുകസ് നൈഗ്ര (Sambucus nigra) അഡോക്സസീ കുടുംബത്തിലെ പൂച്ചെടികളുടെ ഒരു സങ്കരയിനം ആണ്.[1], എൽഡർ , ബ്ളാക്ക് എൽഡർ , യൂറോപ്യൻ എൽഡർ, യൂറോപ്യൻ ബ്ളാക്ക് എൽഡർ ബെറി എന്നിവയാണ് സാധാരണ പേരുകൾ.[2].[3]പ്രാഥമികമായി വ്യത്യസ്ത പ്രദേശങ്ങളിൽ വരണ്ടതും ഈർപ്പമുള്ളതുമായ ഫലഭൂയിഷ്ഠമായ മണ്ണ് നിറഞ്ഞപ്രദേശങ്ങളിൽ ഇവ വളരുന്നു.
