ഹോളോകോസ്റ്റ് നടപ്പിലാക്കാൻ നാസിജർമനി രണ്ടാംലോകമഹായുദ്ധകാലത്ത് യൂറോപ്പിലങ്ങോളമിങ്ങോളം ഉണ്ടാക്കിയ തടങ്കൽപ്പാളയങ്ങളുടെയും പീഡനകേന്ദ്രങ്ങളുടെയും ഭാഗികപട്ടികയാണിത്. 1967 -ൽ ജർമൻ നിയമമന്ത്രായലം കുറെക്കൂടി പൂർണ്ണമായ ഒരു പട്ടിക ഉണ്ടാക്കിയിട്ടുണ്ട്. അതിൽ ജർമനി അധിനിവേശിച്ച ഇടങ്ങളിൽ ഉള്ളതടക്കം 1200 ക്യാമ്പുകളുടെ വിവരങ്ങളുണ്ട്,[2] എന്നാൽ ജൂതവിർച്ച്വൽ ലൈബ്രറി ഇങ്ങനെ എഴുതുന്നു: "ജർമനി 15000 ക്യാമ്പുകൾ കീഴടക്കിയ രാജ്യങ്ങളിൽ ഉണ്ടാക്കിയിരുന്നു."[3] തടങ്കൽപ്പാളയങ്ങളെ കൂട്ടക്കൊലാകേന്ദ്രങ്ങളിൽ നിന്നും വേർതിരിച്ചുകാണേണ്ടതുണ്ട്. കൂട്ടക്കൊലാകേന്ദ്രങ്ങളിൽ മിക്ക ആൾക്കാരെയും വരുമ്പോൾത്തന്നെ കൊന്നുകളയുകയാണ് ചെയ്തിരുന്നത്.[4] ഓപറേഷൻ റീൻഹർഡിന്റെ ഭാഗമായി ഉണ്ടാക്കിയ Bełżec, Sobibór, Treblinka എന്നീ നിർമ്മാർജ്ജനകേന്ദ്രങ്ങൾ മരണശാലകൾ തന്നെയായിരുന്നു. ഇവിടങ്ങളിൽ എസ് എസ്സും പോലീസും ചേർന്ന് ഏതാണ്ട് 2,700,000 ജൂതന്മാരെ ഒന്നുകിൽ ഗ്യാസ് ചേമ്പറിലോ അല്ലെങ്കിൽ വെടിവച്ചോ കൊലപ്പെടുത്തിയിരുന്നു.[4] ഇവിടെ കൊടുത്തിരിക്കുന്ന പട്ടികയിൽ പലതും അടിമപ്പണിയെടുപ്പിച്ച് മുതലെടുപ്പുനടത്തിയിരുന്ന ഇടങ്ങളാണ്. ഇവയിൽ മിക്കതും യുദ്ധത്തിൽതോൽവി ഉറപ്പായപ്പോൾ നാസികൾ തന്നെ തെളിവ് നശിപ്പിക്കാനായി തകർത്തുകളഞ്ഞിരുന്നു. ബാക്കിയുള്ള തടവുകാരെ മരണമാർച്ചിൽ പങ്കെടുപ്പിച്ചിരുന്നതിൽ പലരെയും സഖ്യസേന രക്ഷപ്പെടുത്തി.[5]

ഈ ക്യാമ്പുകളിൽ തടവുകാരെ വിചാരണചെയ്തോ നേരാംവണ്ണമുള്ള നിയമത്തിന്റെ രീതിയിലോ ആയിരുന്നില്ല തടവിലിട്ടിരുന്നത്. ആധുനികനിയമഭാഷയിൽ ഇവ തയ്യാറാക്കിയരീതിയിൽ മോശമായി പെരുമാറാനോ പട്ടിണിക്കിടാനോ നിർബന്ധിതമായി ജോലിചെയ്യിക്കാനോ കൊന്നുതന്നെകളയാനോ ഉള്ള ഇടങ്ങളായിരുന്നു. 1933-39 മുൻപ് യുദ്ധത്തിനുമുൻപുള്ള കാലങ്ങളിൽ തടവുകാരിൽ ഭൂരിഭാഗവും ജർമൻ കമ്യൂണിസ്റ്റുകളോ, സോഷ്യലിസ്റ്റുകളോ, സോഷ്യൽ ഡെമോക്രാറ്റുകളോ, റോമൻ ജനതയോ, യഹോവാസാക്ഷികളോ, സ്വവർഗ്ഗാനുരാഗികളോ, ജർമൻകണക്കുപ്രകാരം സാമൂഹികമായനിലയിൽ താഴെയുള്ളവരോ ഒക്കെയായിരുന്നു.[6] അവരെയൊന്നും ജർമനിയുടെ യുദ്ധകാര്യങ്ങളിൽ സഹായിക്കാൻ ഉപയോഗിച്ചിരുന്നില്ല. എന്നാൽ തടങ്കൽപ്പാളയങ്ങളിലും പീഡനകേന്ദ്രങ്ങളിലും ഉള്ളവരെ അമേരിക്കൻ ഹോളോകോസ്റ്റ് മെമോറിയൽ മ്യൂസിയത്തിന്റെ കണക്കുപ്രകാരം 42500 പീഡനകേന്ദ്രങ്ങളിൽ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്ന ഒന്നരക്കോടിക്കും രണ്ടുകോടിക്കും ഇടയിലുള്ളവരെ വരുംവർഷങ്ങളിൽ അടിമപ്പണി എടുപ്പിക്കുകയായിരുന്നു,[7] [7] കോൺസൻട്രേഷൻ ക്യാമ്പ് എന്ന ഒറ്റപ്പേരിൽ ആയിരുന്നു ഇവ അറിയപ്പെട്ടിരുന്നതെങ്കിലും പലതരത്തിലുള്ളവ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.[8]

ജർമൻ ഭരണപീഡനങ്ങളെ നിലനിർത്തിയ 20000 ക്യാമ്പുകൾ ജർമനിയിലും ജർമൻ അധിനിവേശസ്ഥലങ്ങളിലും ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.[6] ഇതിലെ ചിലവിവരങ്ങൾ ലൂസി ഡാവിഡോവിസിന്റെ ജൂതർക്കെതിരെയുള്ള യുദ്ധത്തിൽ നിന്നും അതുപോലുള്ള മറ്റുചില സ്രോതസ്സുകളിൽ നിന്നും എടുത്തതാണ്.[9]
