ആദ്യകാല ചരിത്രം

റോച്ചസ്റ്റർ സർവ്വകലാശാലയുടെ ഉത്ഭവം 1796-ൽ സ്ഥാപിതമായ ദി ഫസ്റ്റ് ബാപ്റ്റിസ്റ്റ് ചർച്ച് ഓഫ് ഹാമിൽട്ടൺ (ന്യൂയോർക്ക്) ആണ്. പള്ളി ബാപ്റ്റിസ്റ്റ് എഡ്യൂക്കേഷൻ സൊസൈറ്റി ഓഫ് സ്റ്റേറ്റ് ഓഫ് ന്യൂയോർക്ക് സ്ഥാപിച്ചു. പിന്നീട് 1817 ൽ ഹാമിൽട്ടൺ ലിറ്റററി ആൻഡ് തിയോളജിക്കൽ ഇൻസ്റ്റിറ്റ്യൂഷൻ എന്ന് പുനർനാമകരണം ചെയ്തു. [23] ഈ സ്ഥാപനം കോൾഗേറ്റ് സർവകലാശാലയ്ക്കും റോച്ചസ്റ്റർ സർവകലാശാലയ്ക്കും ജന്മം നൽകി. ബാപ്റ്റിസ്റ്റ് പാരമ്പര്യത്തിൽ പുരോഹിതരെ പരിശീലിപ്പിക്കുക എന്നതായിരുന്നു അതിന്റെ പ്രവർത്തനം. ഉയർന്ന ബിരുദം നൽകാൻ ആഗ്രഹിച്ചപ്പോൾ അത് ദൈവശാസ്ത്ര വിഭാഗത്തിൽ നിന്ന് വ്യത്യസ്തമായി ഒരു കൊളീജിയറ്റ് ഡിവിഷൻ സൃഷ്ടിച്ചു.
