ഐറിസ് ജനുസ്സിലെ ഒരു സ്പീഷീസാണ് ഐറിസ് ഹാലോഫില. ഇത് ലിംനിറിസ് എന്ന ഉപജാതിയിലും സ്പുരിയേ ശ്രേണിയിലും കാണപ്പെടുന്നു. മഞ്ഞ, വെള്ള അല്ലെങ്കിൽ വയലറ്റ് പൂക്കളോടുകൂടിയ ഭൂകാണ്‌ഡമുള്ള ഒരു വാർഷിക സസ്യമാണിത്. മിതശീതോഷ്ണ പ്രദേശങ്ങളിൽ ഇത് ഒരു അലങ്കാര സസ്യമായി കൃഷി ചെയ്തുവരുന്നു. കിഴക്കൻ യൂറോപ്പ് മുതൽ ഏഷ്യയിലെ ചൈന വരെയുള്ള വിശാലമായ ശ്രേണിയിലാണിത് കാണപ്പെടുന്നത്. ഐറിസ് സ്പൂറിയയുടെ പ്രത്യേക സ്പീഷിസായി പരിഗണിക്കപ്പെടുന്നതിന് മുമ്പ് ഇത് ഒരു ഉപജാതിയായി വളരെക്കാലം അറിയപ്പെട്ടിരുന്നു.
