യൂഫോർബിയേസീ കുടുംബത്തിലെ പൂച്ചെടികളുടെ ഒരു ജനുസ്സാണ് അഡെലിയ.[1] ഇതിന്റെ ജന്മദേശം ലാറ്റിനമേരിക്കയിലും കരീബിയൻ പ്രദേശങ്ങളിലുമാണെങ്കിലും ഒരു ഇനം ടെക്സസിന്റെ തെക്കേ അറ്റം വരെ വടക്കോട്ട് വ്യാപിച്ചുകിടക്കുന്നു.[2][3][4][5][6][7]
അല്ല" എന്നർത്ഥം വരുന്ന α (a), "ദൃശ്യം" എന്നർത്ഥം വരുന്ന δήλος (delos) എന്നീ ഗ്രീക്ക് പദങ്ങളിൽ നിന്നാണ് ഈ പേര് ഉരുത്തിരിഞ്ഞത്. ജനുസ്സിനെ വ്യാഖ്യാനിക്കുന്നതിൽ ലിന്നേയസ് അനുഭവിച്ച ബുദ്ധിമുട്ടുകളെ ഇത് സൂചിപ്പിക്കുന്നു[8]
