കോമൺ വെൽത്ത് രാജ്യങ്ങളിലെ കായിക താരങ്ങൾ പങ്കെടുക്കുന്ന ഒരു വിവിധകായിക മത്സര പരിപാടിയാണ്‌ കോമൺ വെൽത്ത് മത്സരങ്ങൾ. ഓരോ നാലുവർഷം കൂടുമ്പോഴാണ്‌ ഇത് നടത്തപ്പെടുന്നത്. ലോകത്ത് നടത്തപ്പെടുന്ന മൂന്നാമത്തെ വലിയ കായിക മത്സര പരിപാടിയാണിത്[അവലംബം ആവശ്യമാണ്]. ഒന്നാം സ്ഥാനം ഒളിമ്പിക്സിനും രണ്ടാം സ്ഥാനം ഏഷ്യൻ ഗെയിംസിനുമാണ്‌.

കോമൺ വെൽത്ത് മത്സരങ്ങളിൽ ആദ്യത്തേത് നടന്നത് 1930 ൽ ബ്രിട്ടീഷ് എമ്പയർ ഗെയിംസ് എന്ന പേരിലായിരുന്നു.ഇതിൽ 11 രാജ്യങ്ങൾ പങ്കെടുത്തു. പിന്നീട് 1942 ല കാനഡയിലെ ‍ മോണ്ട്രിയാലിൽ നടക്കേണ്ടിയിരുന്ന ഗെയിംസ് രണ്ടാം ലോകമഹായുദ്ധം കാരണം മാറ്റിവച്ചു. [1] പിന്നീട് ഈ മത്സരങ്ങൾ 1950 തുടരുകയും ഇതിന്റെ പേർ ബ്രിട്ടീഷ് എമ്പയർ കോമൺ വെൽത്ത് ഗെയിംസ് എന്നാക്കി. ഈ പേരിൽ ആദ്യ മത്സരങ്ങൾ നടന്നത് 1954 ലാണ്.[2] പിന്നീട് 1978 ൽ നടന്ന ഗെയിംസ് ആണ് കോമൺ വെൽത്ത് ഗെയിംസ് എന്ന പേരിൽ അറിയപ്പെട്ട് തുടങ്ങിയത്.
