വിവരണം[തിരുത്തുക]
പരുന്തിനു 58 സെ.മീ. വരെ നീളവും, വിടർത്തിയിരിക്കുന്ന ചിറകുകളുടെ അഗ്രങ്ങൾ തമ്മിൽ 136 സെ.മീ. വരെ അകലവും, 1.364 കി.ഗ്രാം ശരീരഭാരവുമുണ്ടാകാറുണ്ട്[6][7]
മരങ്ങളുള്ള പ്രദേശങ്ങളിലാണ് പരുന്തിനെ സാധാരണകാണുക, എന്നിരുന്നാലും തുറസ്സായ പ്രദേശങ്ങളിലും വിരളമല്ല. ചെറിയ എലി, മുയൽ തുടങ്ങിയ സസ്തനികളാണ് പ്രിയമെങ്കിലും, പാമ്പുകൾ, പല്ലികൾ, ചെറുപക്ഷികൾ മുതലായ കിട്ടുന്നതെന്തും ഭക്ഷിക്കും. ഉഴുതയുടെനെയുള്ള പാടങ്ങളിലും മറ്റും പ്രാണികളേയും വിരകളേയും മറ്റും നടന്ന് ഭക്ഷിക്കുന്നതd കാണാവുന്നതാണ്. ഭക്ഷണം കാലുകളിൽ റാഞ്ചിയെടുത്ത് സുരക്ഷിതമായ സ്ഥലത്ത് ചെന്നിരുന്ന് തിന്നുന്ന സ്വഭാവവും കണ്ടുവരുന്നു.
പരുന്തുകൾ കൂട്ടമായി ജീവിക്കുന്ന പക്ഷിയല്ലെങ്കിലും, ഒരേ സമയം ഒരേ സ്ഥലത്ത് ഒന്നിലധികം എണ്ണത്തെ കണാനാവും. ഭക്ഷണത്തിന്റെ ലഭ്യത ധാരാളമുണ്ടെങ്കിൽ പ്രത്യേകിച്ച് ഇങ്ങനെ കാണാമെങ്കിലും ഒറ്റയ്ക്കൊറ്റയ്ക്കാവും ഇരതേടുക. സ്വന്തം പരിധി കാത്തുസൂക്ഷിക്കുന്ന സ്വഭാവമുള്ളതിനാൽ ചെറുകലഹങ്ങളും ഉണ്ടാകാറുണ്ട്.
