ബ്രസീലിലെ ആറാമത്തെ ഏറ്റവും വലിയ നഗരമാണ് ബെലോ ഹൊറിസോണ്ടെ. തെക്കേ അമേരിക്കയിലെ പതിമൂന്നാമത്തെ വലിയ നഗരവും അമേരിക്കയിലെ പതിനെട്ടാമത്തെ വലിയ നഗരവുമാണ് ഇത്. ബ്രസീലിലെ ഏറ്റവും ജനസംഖ്യയുള്ള മൂന്നാമത്തെ മെട്രോപ്പോളിറ്റൻ പ്രദേശവും, അമേരിക്കയിലെ പതിനേഴാമത്തെ നഗരവുമാണ് ബെലോ ഹൊറിസോണ്ടെ. ബ്രസീലിലെ രണ്ടാമത്തെ ഏറ്റവും ജനസംഖ്യയുള്ള സംസ്ഥാനമായ മിനാസ് ജെറീസ് സംസ്ഥാനത്തിന്റെ തലസ്ഥാനമാണ് ബെലോ ഹൊറിസോണ്ടെ. ബ്രസീലിലെ ആദ്യത്തെ ആസൂത്രിത ആധുനിക നഗരമാണിത്.
നിരവധി മലകൾക്കിടയിലാണ് ഈ നഗരം നിർമ്മിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നത്. പൂർണ്ണമായും മലകളാൽ ചുറ്റപ്പെട്ടുകിടക്കുന്നു. ബെലോ ഹൊറിസോണ്ടെയുടെ അടുത്തുള്ള ചുറ്റുപാടുകളിൽ നിരവധി വലിയ പാർക്കുകൾ ഉണ്ട്. നഗരത്തിൽ നിന്ന് 6 കിലോമീറ്റർ അകലെ കുറൽ റിഡ്ജ് മലനിരകളിൽ സ്ഥിതി ചെയ്യുന്ന മംഗ്ബീറസ് പാർക്കിൽ (പാർക്ക് ദാസ് മംഗബീർരാസ്) നിന്നും നഗരത്തിന്റെ വിശാല രൂപം കാണാം. ഇതിന് 2.35 ചതുരശ്ര കിലോമീറ്ററാണ് (580 ഏക്കർ) ആണ് ഇതിന്റെ വിസ്തൃതി, ഇതിൽ 0.9 ചതുരശ്ര കിലോമീറ്റർ (220 ഏക്കർ) വനഭൂമിയാണ്. ജാംബൈറോ വുഡ്സ ് നാച്ചുറൽ റിസർവ് (മാതാ ഡു ജാംബൈറോ) 912 ഹെക്ടർ (2,250 ഏക്കർ) വിസ്തൃതിയുള്ളതാണ്. നൂറിലധികം ഇനം പക്ഷികളും പത്ത് വ്യത്യസ്ത ഇനം സസ്തനികളും ഇവിടെ കാണപ്പെടുന്നു.
ബെലോ ഹൊറിസോണ്ടെ 1950 ലെയും 2014 ലെയും ഫിഫ ലോകകപ്പിന് ആതിഥേയത്വം വഹിച്ചു. കൂടാതെ 2013 ലെ ഫിഫ കോൺഫെഡറേഷൻ കപ്പ്, 2016 ലെ സമ്മർ ഒളിംപിക്‌സ് എന്നിവയ്ക്കും ആതിഥേയത്വം വഹിച്ചു.
