യൂറോപ്പിലും ഇന്ത്യയിലും അനവധിപടയോട്ടങ്ങൾ നടത്തി ബ്രിട്ടിഷ് സാമ്രാജ്യത്തിൻ പതാക എങ്ങും പാറിച്ച പടനായകനാണ് ആർതർ വെല്ലസ്ലി പ്രഭു. Arthur Wellesley, 1st Duke of Wellington, KG GCB PC FRS (1 മെയ് 1769 – 14 സെപ്തംബർ 1852). 1769-ൽ അയർലൻണ്ടിലെ ഒരു പ്രഭുകുടുംബത്തിലാണ് വെല്ലസ്ലി ജനിച്ചത്. രണ്ടുവട്ടം ബ്രിട്ടന്റെ പ്രധാനമന്ത്രിയായിരുന്നിട്ടുണ്ട്. ബ്രിട്ടീഷ് ഇന്ത്യയുടെ ഗവർണർ ജനറലായിരുന്ന റിച്ചാഡ് വെല്ലസ്ലി ഇദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ മൂത്ത സഹോദരനാണ്. 1785വരെ ഈണിലായിരുന്നു വെല്ലസ്ലിയുടെ പഠനം. 1787-ൽ സൈന്യത്തിൽ ചേർന്നു.
