കെയ് പനബേക്കർ ടെക്സാസിലെ ഓറഞ്ചിൽ ഡോണയുടേയും ഹാരോൾഡ് പനബേക്കറുടേയും മകളായി ജനിച്ചു.[1] മൂത്ത സഹോദരി ഡാനിയേലിൻറെ കാൽപ്പാടുകൾ പിന്തുടർന്ന്, ചിക്കാഗോ, ഇല്ലിനോയി, ഫിലാഡെൽഫിയ, പെൻസിൽവാനിയ, അറ്റ്ലാൻറ, ജോർജ്ജിയ എന്നിവിടങ്ങളിലെ വിവിധ കമ്മ്യൂണിറ്റി തിയറ്ററുകളുമായി ചേർന്നു പ്രവർത്തിച്ചിരുന്നു. ഇല്ലിനോയിയിലെ നാപേവില്ലെയിലെ ക്രോൺ മിഡിൽ സ്കൂളിൽ കെയ് പനബേക്കർ ആറാം ക്ലാസ്സിൽ പഠിക്കുകയും ഏഴാം ക്ലാസിൻറെ ആരംഭത്തിൽ കാലിഫോർണിയയിലെ ലോസ് ആഞ്ജലസിലേക്ക് മാറുകയും ചെയ്തു. വിവിധ പ്രോജക്ടുകൾക്കിടയിൽ കെയ് പഠനത്തിൽ ശ്രദ്ധ കേന്ദ്രീകരിക്കുകയും 13 വയസ്സുള്ളപ്പോൾ, ഹൈസ്കൂളിൽ നിന്ന് വലെഡിക്ടോറിയനായി ബിരുദം നേടുകയും ചെയ്തു.[2] അഭിനയം പഠിച്ചിരുന്ന ഗ്ലെൻഡെയിൽ കമ്യൂണിറ്റി കോളേജിൽ[3][4] നിന്നും രണ്ട് അക്കാദമിക സ്കോളർഷിപ്പുകൾ അവർക്കു ലഭിച്ചിരുന്നു. പതിനഞ്ച് വയസ്സുള്ളപ്പോൾ ഒരു അസോസിയേറ്റ് ബിരുദം നേടിയിരുന്നു. ലോസ് ആഞ്ചലസ് (UCLA) കാലിഫോർണിയ സർവകലാശാലയിലേയ്ക്കു കെയ് പനബേക്കർ പ്രവേശനം നേടുകയും അവിടെ ചരിത്രത്തിൽ ഒരു ജൂനിയറായി അംഗീകരിക്കപ്പെടുകയും ചരിത്രത്തിൽ ബാച്ചിലർ ബിരുദം 18 വയസ്സ് തികയുന്നതിനുമുൻപ് നേടുകയും ചെയ്തു.[5]
