ഹിമാലയൻ മലനിരകളിലെ കിഴക്കൻ കാരക്കോറത്തിൽ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന ഒരു ഹിമാനിയാണ്‌ സിയാചിൻ ഹിമാനി. അക്ഷാംശരേഖാംശം 35°30′N 77°00′E / 35.5°N 77.0°E / 35.5; 77.0 ലായി ഇന്ത്യാ-പാക് ഇന്തോ-പാക് നിയന്ത്രണരേഖയ്ക്ക് തൊട്ട് കിഴക്കായാണ്‌ ഇതിന്റെ സ്ഥാനം. ലോകത്തിലെ ഏറ്റവും ഉയരം കൂടിയ യുദ്ധഭൂമിയാണിത്.[5] എഴുപത് കിലോമീറ്റർ നീളമുള്ള സിയാചിൻ ഹിമാനി കാരക്കോറത്തിലെ ഏറ്റവും നീളം കൂടിയതും ധ്രുവേതര മേഖലയിൽ ലോകത്തിൽ രണ്ടാമത്തേതുമാണ്‌[6]. സമുദ്രനിരപ്പിൽ നിന്ന് 5753 മീറ്റർ (18,875 അടി) ഉയരത്തിലാണ്‌ ഇതിന്റെ കിടപ്പ്. സിയാചിൻ ഹിമാനിയെ ഭൂമിയുടെ മൂന്നാം ധ്രുവം എന്നും വിളിക്കാറുണ്ട്.[7] സിയാചിൻ ഹിമാനിയും അതിന്റെ എല്ലാ കൈവഴികളും ഇന്ത്യയുടെ നിയന്ത്രണത്തിലാണ്‌.

ശീതകാലത്ത് ഇവിടുത്തെ ശരാശരി മഞ്ഞുവീഴ്ച്ച 10.5 മീറ്റർ(35 അടി‌) ആണ്‌. താപനില മൈനസ് 50 ഡിഗ്രിസെൽഷ്യസായി താഴുകയും ചെയ്യും. സിയചിൻ ഹിമാനിയുടെ എല്ലാ കൈവഴികളുമുൾപ്പടെ മൊത്തം സിയാചിൻനിരകൾ 700 ചതുരശ്ര കിലോമീറ്റർ വിസ്ത്രീർണ്ണം വരും. ലോകത്തിലെ ഏറ്റവും ഉയരത്തിലുള്ള ഹെലിപ്പാഡും (ഇന്ത്യ നിർമ്മിച്ചത്) ഏറ്റവും ഉയരത്തിലുള്ള യുദ്ധഭൂമിയും സിയാചിൻ നിരകളിലാണ്‌[8]. സമുദ്രനിരപ്പിൽ നിന്ന് ഏകദേശം 21,000 അടി (6400 മീറ്റർ) ഉയരത്തിലാണിത്.

കൊടുംശൈത്യമാണ്‌ ഇവിടുത്തെ കാലാവസ്ഥയെങ്കിലും "സിയാചിൻ" എന്ന നാമത്തിന്റെ അർത്ഥം “കാട്ടുപനിനീർപ്പൂക്കളുടെ ഇടം” (place of wild roses) എന്നാണ്‌. ഹിമാലയ താഴ്‌വരയിലെ കാട്ടുപൂക്കളുടെ നിറഞ്ഞ സാന്നിധ്യമായിരിക്കാം ഈ പേരിനു പിന്നിൽ.

മഞ്ഞുരുക്കം[തിരുത്തുക]

നുബ്റ നദിയുടെ പ്രധാന ഉറവിടം സിയാചിൻ മഞ്ഞുമലകളുടെ മഞ്ഞുരുക്കമാണ്‌. നുബ്‌റ നദി ഷയോക്ക് നദിയിലോട്ട് ഒഴുകുന്നു. ഷയോക്ക് പിന്നെ സിന്ധു നദിയിൽ ചേരുന്നു. അങ്ങനെ സിന്ധു നദിയുടെ ഏറ്റവും വലിയ ജലസ്രോതസ്സായി മാറുന്നു സിയാചിൻ മഞ്ഞുമല. ആഗോള താപനത്തിന്റെ പ്രത്യാഘാതം സിയാചിൻ മഞ്ഞുമല അസാധാരണനിലയിൽ ഉരുകുന്നതിനും ഹിമാലയത്തിന്റെ വടക്കൻ ഭാഗങ്ങളിൽ മഴപെയ്യുന്നതിനും കാരണമാകുന്നു. സമീപ ദശാബ്ദങ്ങളിൽ മഞ്ഞുമലയുടെ വ്യാപ്തം വലിയ അളവിൽ കുറഞ്ഞുവരുന്നതായും കാണുന്നു. 1984 മുതലുള്ള സൈനിക ഇടപെടലും സാനിധ്യവും ഇവിടുത്തെ മഞ്ഞുമലയെ ദോഷകരമായി ബാധിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട് എന്നും ആരോപിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു [9].

1984 ഏപ്രിലിൽ നടത്തിയ ഓപ്പറേഷൻ മേഘദൂതിലൂടെയാണ് ഇന്ത്യൻ സൈന്യം സിയാചിൻ ഗ്ലേഷ്യറിനെ പൂർണ്ണനിയന്ത്രണത്തിലാക്കിയത്. 1984 മുതൽ ഇന്ത്യയും പാകിസ്താനും ഇടവിട്ട് പോരാട്ടമുണ്ടാവുന്ന, ഭൂമിയിലെ ഏറ്റവും ഉയർന്ന യുദ്ധ മേഖലയാണ്‌ സിയാചിൻ മലനിരകൾ. 6000 മീറ്റർ ഉയരത്തിലുള്ള ഈ നിരകളിൽ ഇരു രാജ്യങ്ങളുടെയും സ്ഥിരമായ സൈനിക സാനിധ്യമുണ്ട്. പർ‌വ്വത നിരകളിലെ യുദ്ധമുറയ്ക്ക് ഉദാഹരണമാണ്‌ സിയാചിൻ. ഇരു രാജ്യങ്ങളും തങ്ങളുടെ സൈന്യത്തെ ഇവിടുന്ന് പിൻ‌വലിക്കണമെന്ന് ആഗ്രഹിക്കുന്നുണ്ടെങ്കിലും[അവലംബം ആവശ്യമാണ്] 1999-ലെ കാർഗിൽ യുദ്ധത്തിന്‌ ശേഷം വീണ്ടും മറ്റൊരു കാർഗിൽ ആവർത്തിക്കുമോ എന്ന് ആശങ്കിച്ച് ഇന്ത്യ അതിൽ നിന്ന് പിന്നോട്ട് പോവുകയായിരുന്നു.

2012 ഏപ്രിൽ 7-ന് സിയാചിൻ ഹിമാനിക്കടുത്തുള്ള പാകിസ്താൻ സൈനിക ക്യാമ്പിൽ ഹിമാനി വീഴ്ചയെ തുടർന്ന് 130 പാകിസ്താൻ സൈനികർ മഞ്ഞിനടിയിലകപ്പെട്ടു.[10]

വിനോദ സഞ്ചാരം[തിരുത്തുക]

സിയാച്ചിൻ ഹിമാനിയുടെ ഒരു ഭാഗം വിനോദ സഞ്ചാരികൾക്കു തുറന്നുകൊടുക്കാൻ ഇന്ത്യൻ കരസേനയ്ക്ക് പദ്ധതിയുണ്ട്. ഇതുവഴി സിയാച്ചിൻ ബേസ് ക്യാംപ് മുതൽ കുമാർ പോസ്റ്റ് വരെ സന്ദർശനം നടത്താൻ വിനോദ സഞ്ചാരികൾക്ക് കഴിയും[11]
