ചൈനീസ് ചലച്ചിത്രസംവിധായകനും നിർമ്മാതാവുമാണ് ലു ചുവാൻ.(ജ:1971).ചൈനീസ് എഴുത്തുകാരനായ ലു ടിയാന്മിങ്ങിന്റെ പുത്രനായ ചുവാൻ അറിയപ്പെടുന്ന ഒരു തിരക്കഥാകൃത്തും കൂടിയാണ്.[1] ചൈനീസ് പട്ടാളത്തിന്റെ അധീനതയിൽ ഉള്ള സർവ്വകലാശാലയിൽ അദ്ധ്യയനം പൂർത്തിയാക്കിയ ചുവാൻ പട്ടാള ജനറലിന്റെ സഹായി ആയും ആദ്യകാലങ്ങളിൽ ജോലി നോക്കി.അക്കാലത്തു തന്നെയാണ് ബീജിങ് ഫിലിം അക്കാഡമിയിൽ ചലച്ചിത്രസംവിധാനത്തിൽ ബിരുദാനന്തരബിരുദവും കരസ്ഥമാക്കിയത്.
ഇങ്മർ ബർഗ്മൻ,ജിം യാർമുഷ്,പീയർ പവോലോ പസ്സോളിനി,ഫ്രാൻസിസ് ഫോർഡ് കപ്പോള എന്നിവരുടെ ചലച്ചിത്രസൃഷ്ടികൾ ചുവാനെ പഠന കാലയളവിൽ സ്വാധീനിച്ചു.

ചൈനീസ് ചലച്ചിത്രരംഗത്ത് ശ്രദ്ധിക്കപ്പെടുന്ന വ്യക്തിത്വമായി കരുതപ്പെടുന്ന ചുവാന്റെ ആദ്യകാലചിത്രങ്ങൾ കുറഞ്ഞ സാമ്പത്തിക മുതൽമുടക്കോടെ നിർമ്മിക്കപ്പെട്ടവയായിരുന്നു.[2] 2002 ൽ പുറത്തിറങ്ങിയ ദ് മിസ്സിങ് ഗൺ, 2004 ൽ ഇറങ്ങിയ കീകിസിലി മൗണ്ടൻ പട്രോൾ എന്നീ ചിത്രങ്ങൾ അന്താരാഷ്ട്രതലത്തിൽ തന്നെ ശ്രദ്ധിയ്ക്കപ്പെട്ടു. ജപ്പാൻ ചലച്ചിത്രോത്സവത്തിൽ കീകിസിലി സുവർണ്ണ മയൂരം സുവർണ്ണ അശ്വം എന്നീ പുരസ്ക്കാരങ്ങളും നേടി.
