കറുത്ത ശരീരത്തിൽ വെളുത്ത വരകളും ഉദരത്തിൽ വെളുത്ത വളയങ്ങളുമുള്ള നിഴൽത്തുമ്പി കുടുംബത്തിൽ ഉള്ള ഒരു സൂചിത്തുമ്പിയാണ് നീലക്കഴുത്തൻ നിഴൽത്തുമ്പി (ശാസ്ത്രീയനാമം: Protosticta mortoni).[1][2] ഇത് പശ്ചിമഘട്ടത്തിലെ ഒരു തദ്ദേശീയ തുമ്പിയാണ്.[3][4]
നീളമുള്ള ഉദരവും, ഉദരത്തിന്റെ പകുതിയിൽ താഴെ മാത്രം നീളമുള്ള ചിറകുകളും, കടും നീലം നിറമുള്ള കണ്ണുകളുമുള്ള ആൺതുമ്പിയെ തിരിച്ചറിയാൻ എളുപ്പമാണ്. ജലാശയത്തിനു ചുറ്റുമുള്ള വനങ്ങളുടെ അടിക്കാടുകളിൽ കാണപ്പെടുന്നു. ഇവയുടെ കഴുത്തിന് മങ്ങിയ നീലനിറമാണ്. തിളങ്ങുന്ന കറുപ്പു നിറമുള്ള ഉരസ്സിൽ രണ്ട് ഇളം നീല വരകൾ കാണാം. കറുത്ത ഉദരത്തിന്റെ ഖണ്ഡങ്ങൾക്കിടയിൽ വെളുത്ത വളയങ്ങളുണ്ട്. പെൺതുമ്പികളുടെ ഉദരം നീളം കുറഞ്ഞതും തടിച്ചതുമാണ്. കഴുത്തിന്റെ നീല നിറവും എട്ടാം ഖണ്ഡത്തിലെ അടയാളത്തിലുള്ള വ്യത്യാസവും ഇവയെ പുള്ളി നിഴൽത്തുമ്പിയിൽനിന്നും തിരിച്ചറിയാൻ സഹായിക്കുന്നു.[3]
