പാൽ ഉൽപ്പാദനം തുടങ്ങി നാലാം നാൾ ഉള്ള മനുഷ്യരിലെ ചീമ്പാലിന്റെ ചിത്രം ഇടതുവശത്ത്, എട്ടാം നാളിലെ പാൽ വലതുവശത്ത്. ചീമ്പാലിന് പൊതുവേ മുലപ്പാലിനേക്കാൾ മഞ്ഞനിറം കൂടുതൽ ആയിരിക്കും

ഗർഭാവസ്ഥയുടെ അവസാനകാലത്ത് സസ്തനികളുടെ മുലകളിൽ ഉൽപ്പാദിപ്പിക്കപ്പെടുന്ന ഒരുതരം മുലപ്പാലാണ് ചീമ്പാൽ (Colostrum). പ്രസവിക്കുന്നതിനു തൊട്ടുമുൻപേ മിക്ക സ്പീഷിസുകളും ചീമ്പാൽ ഉൽപ്പാദിപ്പിക്കുന്നുണ്ട്. രോഗങ്ങളിൽ നിന്നും നവജാതശിശുക്കളെ സംരക്ഷിക്കുന്നതിനാവശ്യമായ പ്രതിപദാർഥങ്ങൾ ചീമ്പാലിൽ ഉണ്ട്. സാധാരണയ്ക്ക് മുലപ്പാലിൽ ഉള്ളതിനേക്കാൾ വളരെയേറെ മാംസ്യം ചീമ്പാലിൽ അടങ്ങിയിട്ടുണ്ട്. ആടുകളിലും [1][2][3] കുതിരകളിലുമൊക്കെ[4][5] ചീമ്പാലിൽ കൊഴുപ്പിന്റെ അളവും വളരെക്കൂടുതൽ ആയിരിക്കും. എന്നാൽ ഒട്ടകങ്ങളിലും[6] മനുഷ്യരിലുമെല്ലാം മുലപ്പാലിൽ ഉള്ളതിനേക്കാൾ കൊഴുപ്പിന്റെ അളവ് ചീമ്പാലിൽ കുറവായിരിക്കും.[7][8] പന്നികളിൽ പ്രസവാനന്തരം രണ്ടുമൂന്നു ദിവസത്തിനുശേഷമുള്ള മുലപ്പാലിൽ ചീമ്പാലിൽ ഉള്ളതിനേക്കാൾ കൊഴുപ്പിന്റെ അംശം കൂടിയിരിക്കും. പന്നികളിലെ ചീമ്പാലിലെ കൊഴുപ്പിന്റെ അളവിൽ പലതരം വ്യതിയാനങ്ങൾ ഉണ്ടായിരിക്കും.[9]

ഗർഭത്തിന്റെ നാൽപ്പതാം ആഴ്‌ചയിൽ കാണുന്ന ചീമ്പാലിന്റെ തുള്ളികൾ

നവജാതശിശുക്കളിൽ വളർച്ചയെത്താത്തതും വലിപ്പമുള്ളതുമായ ദഹനവ്യവസ്ഥയാണ് ഉള്ളത്, അവിടേക്ക് ചീമ്പാൽ അതിലെ പോഷകങ്ങൾ ലഘുവായ അളവിൽത്തന്നെ ഗാഢമായ രൂപത്തിൽ എത്തിക്കുന്നു. ഇതിനു ലഘുവായി വയറിളക്കാനുള്ള കഴിവുമുണ്ട്, അങ്ങനെ കുട്ടിയുടെ ആദ്യത്തെ മലം പുറത്തുവരുന്നതിനെ എളുപ്പമാക്കാനും സഹായിക്കുന്നു. പ്രസവസമയത്ത് നവജാതശിശുവിന്റെ ശരീരത്തിൽ നിന്നും അമിതമായി രക്തത്തിന്റെ അളവിൽ കുറവുണ്ടാവുകയും അതിൻഫലമായി നിർജ്ജീവമാകുന്ന ചുവന്നരക്താണുക്കളുടെ അവശിഷ്ടമായ ബിലിറൂബിനെ പുറംതള്ളാനും ഇതുവഴി കഴിയുന്നു. അതിനാൽത്തന്നെ കുട്ടികളിൽ ഉണ്ടാവാനിടയുള്ള മഞ്ഞപ്പിത്തത്തെ തടയാനും ഇതു സഹായിക്കുന്നു. ചീമ്പാലിൽ പ്രതിരോധം വർദ്ധിപ്പിക്കുന്ന കോശങ്ങളും IgA, IgG, IgM മുതലായ ആന്റിബോഡികളും[10] അടങ്ങിയിരിക്കുന്നു. കാലമെത്താതെ പിറക്കുന്ന ചില ശിശുക്കളിൽ ചിലപ്പോൾ കുറച്ച് IgA കുടലിൽ ആഗിരണം ചെയ്ത് രക്തധമനികളിൽ എത്താൻ സാധ്യതയുണ്ട്. കാലമെത്തിപ്പിറക്കുന്ന കുട്ടികളിൽ ഈ ആഗിരണം ഉണ്ടാകാറില്ല.[11] വലിയതന്മാത്രകളെ ആഗിരണം ചെയ്യാനാവാത്തവിധം കുടലിലെ സ്തരങ്ങൾ അടഞ്ഞുപോകുന്നതാണ് ഇതിനു കാരണം. എന്നാൽ ജനനശേഷവും കന്നുകാലികളിൽ ഇമ്മ്യൂണോഗ്ലോബുലിൽ ആഗിരണം ചെയ്യപ്പെടുന്നുണ്ട്. സ്വതേയുള്ള പ്രതിരോധശേഷിവർദ്ധിപ്പിക്കാൻ സഹായിക്കുന്ന ലാക്റ്റോഫെറിൻ,[12] ലൈസോസൈം,[13] ലാക്ടോപെറോക്സിഡേസ്,[14] കോമ്പ്ലിമെന്റ്,[15] പ്രൊലീൻ നിറഞ്ഞ പോളിപെപ്റ്റൈഡുകൾ (PRP) എന്നിവയെല്ലാം ചീമ്പാലിൽ അടങ്ങിയിരിക്കുന്നു.[16] ഇതുകൂടാതെ പ്രതിരോധശേഷി വർദ്ധിപ്പിക്കാൻ സഹായകമായ ,[17] ഇന്റർല്യൂകിനുകൾ,[17] റ്റ്യൂമർ നെക്രോസിസ് ഫാക്ടർ,[18] കീമോകൈനുകൾ,[19] തുടങ്ങി പല സൈറ്റോകീനുകളും ചീമ്പാലിൽ ഉണ്ട്. വളർച്ചയെ സഹായിക്കുന്ന ഇൻസുലിൽ സമാന വളർച്ചാഘടകങ്ങളായ I (IGF-1),[20] II,[21] വളർച്ചയെ സഹായിക്കുന്ന ആൽഫ,[22] ബീറ്റ 1, ബീറ്റ 2,[23][24] ഫൈബ്രോബ്ലാസ്റ്റ് വളർച്ചാഘടകങ്ങൾ,[25] എപിഡെർമൽ വളാർച്ചാഘടകം,[26] ഗ്രനുലോസൈ മാക്രോഫേജ് - നെ ഉണർത്തുന്ന വളർച്ചാഘടകം,[27] പ്ലേറ്റുലെറ്റുകളിൽ നിന്നും വരുന്ന വളർച്ചാഘടകം,[27] വാസ്കുലർ എൻഡോതീലിയൽ വളർച്ചാഘടകം ,[28] കോളനീ ഉദ്ദീപനഘടകം-1.[29] തുടങ്ങി ധാരാളം ഘടകങ്ങൾ കൊളസ്‌ട്രത്തിൽ ഉണ്ട്.

ഇവ കൂടാതെ കൊളസ്‌ട്രത്തിൽ ധരാളം മാംസ്യങ്ങളും ജീവകം എ, ഉപ്പ്, എന്നിവയും ഉള്ളപ്പോൾത്തന്നെ കാർബോഹൈഡ്രേറ്റുകളുടെയും ലിപിഡുകളുടെയും പൊട്ടാസ്യത്തിന്റെയും അളവ് മുലപ്പാലിലും കുറവ് ആയിരിക്കും. വളർച്ചയെ ഉദ്ദീപിക്കുന്ന ഘടകങ്ങളും സൂക്ഷാണുക്കളെ ചെറുക്കുന്ന വസ്തുക്കളുമാണ് ചീമ്പാലിൻ്റെ ഏറ്റവും വലിയ മികവ്. കൊളസ്‌ട്രത്തിലുള്ള ആന്റിബോഡീസ് പരോക്ഷമായ പ്രതിരോധശേഷി നൽകുമ്പോൾ, വളർച്ചാഘടകങ്ങൾ കുട്ടിയുടെ വളർച്ചയെ ത്വരിതപ്പെടുത്തുന്നു. കുട്ടികളിലേക്കെത്തുന്ന ചീമ്പാലിലെ ഘടകങ്ങൾ രോഗാണുക്കൾക്കെതിരെ ആദ്യസംരക്ഷണം നൽകുന്നു.
