സാൻ ഹോസെ (സ്പാനിഷ് ഉച്ചാരണം: [saŋ xoˈse]; ശബ്ദാർത്ഥപ്രകാരത്തിൽ "സെന്റ് ജോസെഫ്") കോസ്റ്റാ റികയുടെ തലസ്ഥാനവും ഏറ്റവും വലിയ നഗരവും സാൻ ഹോസെ പ്രവിശ്യയുടെ തലസ്ഥാനവുമാണ്. ഇത് രാജ്യത്തിന്റെ മധ്യഭാഗത്തായി, സെൻട്രൽ വാലിയുടെ മധ്യ-പടിഞ്ഞാറൻ പ്രദേശത്ത്, സാൻ ഹോസെ കാന്റണിനുള്ളിൽ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നു. സാൻ ഹോസെ നഗരം കോസ്റ്റാറിക്കയുടെ ദേശീയ ഗവൺമെന്റിന്റെ ആസ്ഥാനവും, രാഷ്ട്രീയ, സാമ്പത്തിക പ്രവർത്തനങ്ങളുടെ കേന്ദ്രബിന്ദുവും പ്രധാന ഗതാഗത കേന്ദ്രവുമാണ്. ഒരേസമയം കോസ്റ്റാറിക്കയിലെ കന്റോണുകളിൽ ഒന്നുംകൂടിയായ സാൻ ഹോസെയുടെ മുനിസിപ്പൽ ഭൂവിസ്തൃതി 44.62 ചതുരശ്ര കിലോമീറ്റർ (17.23 ചതുരശ്ര മൈൽ)[4] പ്രദേശത്തായി വ്യാപിച്ചുകിടക്കുന്നു. 2022 ൽ 352,381 ജനസംഖ്യ ഇവിടെയുണ്ടായിരുന്നതായി കണക്കാക്കപ്പെട്ടു[5]. അലജുവേല, ഹെറേഡിയ, കാർട്ടഗോ എന്നിവയുൾപ്പെടെ മധ്യ താഴ്വരയിലെ മറ്റ് നിരവധി കന്റോണുകൾക്കൊപ്പം, രാജ്യത്തിന്റെ ഗ്രേറ്റർ മെട്രോപൊളിറ്റൻ ഏരിയയെ രൂപപ്പെടുത്തുന്ന ഇവിടെ 2017 ലെ കണക്കനുസരിച്ച് 2 ദശലക്ഷത്തിലധികം ജനസംഖ്യയുണ്ട്.[6] നസറെത്തിലെ ജോസഫിന്റെ ബഹുമാനാർത്ഥമാണ് നഗരത്തിന് ഈ പേര് നൽകിയിരിക്കുന്നത്.
