നവരത്നങ്ങളിൽ ഒന്നാണ് വൈഡൂര്യം[5]. (സംസ്കൃതത്തിൽ മാർജ്ജാരനയനം, വൈഡൂര്യ (बैडूर्य) ആംഗലേയത്തിൽ Chrysoberyl - cats-eye) [6] വൈഡൂര്യം എന്നത് ബറിലിയത്തിൻറെ ഒരു അലുമിനേറ്റായ 'ക്രിസോസോബറിൽ' ആണ്. ഇതിൻറെ കാഠിന്യം 8.5 ഉം ആപേക്ഷിക സാന്ദ്രത ഏകദേശം 3.75 ഉം ആകുന്നു.
BeAl2O4 സമവാക്യത്തോടുകൂടിയ ബെറിലിയത്തിന്റെ അലുമിനേറ്റാണ് ധാതു അല്ലെങ്കിൽ രത്നം ക്രിസോബെറിൻ. [4][7] ക്രിസോബെറിൻ എന്ന പേര് ഗ്രീക്ക് പദങ്ങളായ χρυσός ക്രിസോസ്, βήρυλλος ബെറിലോസ് എന്നിവയിൽ നിന്നാണ് ഉരുത്തിരിഞ്ഞത്. അതായത് "സ്വർണ്ണ-വെളുത്ത സ്പാർ". അവയുടെ പേരുകളിൽ സമാനത ഉണ്ടെങ്കിലും, ക്രിസോബെറിൽ ബെറിൽ എന്നിവ തികച്ചും വ്യത്യസ്തമായ രണ്ട് രത്നക്കല്ലുകളാണ്. എന്നിരുന്നാലും അവയിൽ രണ്ടും ബെറിലിയം അടങ്ങിയിരിക്കുന്നു. കൊറണ്ടം (9), ടോപസ് (8) എന്നിവയ്ക്കിടയിലുള്ള ധാതു കാഠിന്യത്തിന്റെ തോത് മോസ് സ്കെയിലിൽ 8.5 ആണ്. ഏറ്റവും കഠിനമായ മൂന്നാമത്തെ പ്രകൃതിദത്ത രത്നമാണ് ക്രിസോബെറിൻ.[8]
