പെരുംകൊച്ച്യ്ക്ക്[2] [3][4][5] ആംഗലത്തിൽ Eurasian bittern , great bittern എന്നീ പേരുകളുണ്ട്. ശാസ്ത്രീയ നാമം Botaurus stellarisഎന്നാണ്.

ivayK 69–81 സെ.മീ (27–32 ഇഞ്ച്)നീളമുണ്ട് , 100–130 സെ.മീ (39–51 ഇഞ്ച്) ചിറകുവിരിപ്പും 0.87–1.94 കി.ഗ്രാം (1.9–4.3 lb)തൂക്കവും ഉണ്ട്.[6]
വിതരണം
[തിരുത്തുക]മിക്കവാറും ഒറ്റയ്ക്കാണ് ഇവ ഇര തേടുന്നത്. വെള്ളത്തിൽ വളരെ പതുക്കെ നടന്നോ അനങ്ങാതെ നിന്നൊ ആണ് ഇര പിടിക്കുന്നത്. കാലത്തും സന്ധ്യക്കുമാണ് കൂടുതൽ ഇര തേടുന്നത്.
പ്രജനനം

പൂവൻ അഞ്ചു പിടകളോടു വരെ ഇണ ചേരും. ചെടികൾക്കിടയിൽ ഉയർത്തിയാണ് കൂട് ഉണ്ടാക്കുന്നത്. 4-5 മുട്ടകളിടും. പിട അടയിരിക്കുന്നു. വിരിഞ്ഞ് രണ്ടാഴ്ചകൂടി കുഞ്ഞുങ്ങൾ കൂട്ടിൽ കഴിയും.
ഭക്ഷണം
[തിരുത്തുക]ആഴം കുറഞ്ഞ വെള്ളത്തിൽ ചെടികൾക്കരികിലാണ് ഇര തേടുന്നത്. മത്സ്യങ്ങൾ, ഉഭയ ജീവികൾ, അക്ശേരുകികൾ എന്നിവയാണ് ഭക്ഷണം.
