ചാരക ചിലപ്പന് ആംഗലത്തിൽ Large Grey Babbler എന്നു പറയുന്നു. ശാസ്ത്രീയ നാമം Turdoides malcolmi എന്നാണ്. ഇവയെ കുറ്റിച്ചെടികൾ, തുറന്ന കാടുകൾ, തോട്ടങ്ങൾ എന്നിവിടങ്ങളിൽ സാധാരണയായി കാണാം. ഇവയെ ചെറുകൂട്ടങ്ങളായാണ് കാണുക. വെളുത്ത വാലുകൾകൊണ്ട് ഇവയെ തിരിച്ചറിയാം. [2]

ഹൊഡാലിൽ

ഇതൊരു വലിയ കരിയിലക്കിളിയാണ്. നീളമുള്ള വാലുണ്ട്. തവിട്ടു നിറത്തിലുള്ള ശരീരം, മഞ്ഞ കലർന്ന വെള്ള നിറത്തിലുള്ള വാൽ. അരപ്പാട്ടയും മേൽ വാൽമൂടിയും മങ്ങിയ ചാരനിറമാണ്. കണ്ണിനും കൊക്കിനും ഇടയിലുള്ള ഭാഗം(ഇം.lores) ഇരുണ്ടതാണ്. വെള്ള വരകളോടു കൂടിയ ചാരനിറത്തിലാണ് നെറ്റി. [2] ചിറകുകൾ കടുത്ത തവിട്ടുനിറമാണ്. കണ്ണും മേൽ കൊക്കും കടുത്ത തവിട്ടു നിറം. കീഴ്കൊക്ക് മഞ്ഞ കലർന്നത്. വാൽ മങ്ങിയ കുറുകെ വരകളുള്ളതാണ്. [3] Abnormal specimens showing albinism or leucism have been reported.[4] ഡെക്കാൻ പീഠഭൂമിയിൽ വച്ചാണ് ഇതിനെ ആദ്യമായി വിശദീകരിച്ചത്. ശാസ്ത്രീയ നാമം കൊടുത്തത് Colonel W H Sykes ആണ്.[5]

വിതരണം[തിരുത്തുക]

ഇന്ത്യൻ ഉപഭൂഖണ്ഡത്തിൽ , ഹിമലയത്തിനു തെക്ക്, താർ മരുഭൂമിക്ക് കിഴക്ക് ബീഹാർ വരെ കാണുന്നു. [3]

ചെരിയ കൂട്ടങ്ങളായി കാണുന്നു. ശത്രുക്കളെ കൂട്ടമായി നേരിടുന്നു. [6] തറയിൽ ചാടി ചാടിയാണ് ഇര തേടുന്നത്.[7] Individuals in a group may indulge in play behaviour.[8] പ്രധാന ഭക്ഷണം പ്രാണികളാണ്. ചെറിയ പല്ലി പോലുള്ള ജീവികളേയും ഭക്ഷിക്കും. ഇവ വിത്തുകളും ധാന്യങ്ങളും ചെറിയ പഴങ്ങളും ഭക്ഷിക്കും. [9]

പ്രജനനം[തിരുത്തുക]

ഇവ എല്ലാകാലത്തും പ്രജനനം നടത്തുമെങ്കിലും മാർച്ച് മുതൽ സെപ്തംബർ വരെ യാണ് പ്രധാന കാലം.[2] 4 മുട്ടകളാണ് ഇടുന്നത്. കൂട് ആഴം കുറഞ്ഞ കോപ്പപോലെയാണ്. കുറ്റിച്ചെടികളിൽ പ്രത്യേകിച്ച് മുള്ളുള്ളവയിൽ ആണ് കൂടുണ്ടാക്കുന്നത്. കൂട്ടിൽ കുയിലുക്അൾ മുട്ടയിടാറുണ്ട്.[10] and the Common Hawk-Cuckoo.[11] ഒന്നിൽ കൂടുതൽ പിടകൾ ഒരു കൂട്ടിൽ മുട്ടയിടുകയും അടയിരിക്കുന്നതിൽ സഹകരിക്കുകയും ചെയ്യും.
