ഒനോണ്ടാഗ തടാകം യു.എസ്. സംസ്ഥാനമായ ന്യൂയോർക്കിൻറെ മധ്യമേഖലയിൽ സിറാക്കൂസ് നഗരത്തോട് തൊട്ട് ചേർന്ന് വടക്കുപടിഞ്ഞാറൻ ദിക്കിൽ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന ഒരു തടാകമാണ്. തടാകത്തിന്റെ തെക്കുകിഴക്കേ അറ്റവും തെക്കുപടിഞ്ഞാറൻ തീരവും വ്യാവസായിക മേഖലകളോടും എക്‌സ്‌പ്രസ്‌വേകളോടും തൊട്ടുചേർന്നും വടക്കുകിഴക്കൻ തീരവും വടക്കുപടിഞ്ഞാറൻ അറ്റവും ഉദ്യാനങ്ങളുടേയും മ്യൂസിയങ്ങളുടെയും ഒരു പരമ്പരയോട് ചേർന്നുമാണ് സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നത്.[2]

ഇത് ഫിംഗർ ലേക്സ് മേഖലയ്ക്ക് സമീപമാണെങ്കിലും, പരമ്പരാഗതമായി ഫിംഗർ തടാകങ്ങളിൽ ഒന്നായി പരിഗണിക്കപ്പെടുന്നില്ല. ഒരു ഡിമിക്റ്റിക് തടാകമായ[3] ഒനോണ്ടാഗ തടാകത്തിലെ ജലം വർഷത്തിൽ രണ്ടുതവണ മുകളിൽ നിന്ന് താഴേക്ക് പൂർണ്ണമായും കലരുന്നു. 4.6 മൈൽ (7.4 കിലോമീറ്റർ) നീളവും 1 മൈൽ (1.6 കിലോമീറ്റർ) വീതിയുമുള്ള തടാകം 4.6 ചതുരശ്ര മൈൽ (12 ചതുരശ്ര കിലോമീറ്റർ) പ്രദേശത്തായി വ്യാപിച്ചുകിടക്കുന്നു.[4] തടാകത്തിന്റെ പരമാവധി ആഴം 63 അടിയും (19 മീറ്റർ) ശരാശരി ആഴം 35 അടിയുമാണ് (11 മീറ്റർ).[5] 642 ചതുരശ്ര കിലോമീറ്റർ (248 ചതുരശ്ര മൈൽ) വിസ്തീർണ്ണമുള്ള ഇതിൻറെ നീർത്തട പ്രദേശം, സിറാക്കൂസിന് കിഴക്കും വടക്കും അറ്റങ്ങൾ ഒഴികെയുള്ള ഒനോണ്ടാഗ കൗണ്ടി, കയുഗ കൗണ്ടിയുടെ തെക്കുകിഴക്കൻ മൂല, ഒനോണ്ടാഗ നേഷൻ ടെറിട്ടറി[6] എന്നിവ ഉൾക്കൊള്ളുന്നതും ഏകദേശം 450,000  ജനങ്ങൾക്ക് ജലലഭ്യത ഉറപ്പുവരുത്തുന്നതുമാണ്.[7]

ഒനോണ്ടാഗ തടാകത്തിൻറെ രണ്ട് പ്രകൃതിദത്ത പോഷകനദികൾ തടാകത്തിലേക്കുള്ള മൊത്തം ജലപ്രവാഹത്തിന്റെ ഏകദേശം 70% സംഭാവന ചെയ്യുന്നു. നയൻമൈൽ ക്രീക്ക്, ഒനോണ്ടാഗ ക്രീക്ക് എന്നിവയാണ് ഈ പോഷകനദികൾ. മെട്രോപൊളിറ്റൻ സിറാക്കൂസ് വേസ്റ്റ് വാട്ടർ ട്രീറ്റ്മെന്റ് പ്ലാന്റ് (മെട്രോ) വാർഷിക ഒഴുക്കിന്റെ 20% സംഭാവന ചെയ്യുന്നു.[8][9] ഇത്രയധികം സംസ്‌കരിച്ച മലിനജലം യു.എസിലെ മറ്റൊരു തടാകത്തിലേയ്ക്കും ലഭിക്കുന്നില്ല.[10] ലേ ക്രീക്ക്, സെനെക നദി, ഹാർബർ ബ്രൂക്ക്, സോമിൽ ക്രീക്ക്, ട്രിബ്യൂട്ടറി 5 എ, ഈസ്റ്റ് ഫ്ലൂം എന്നിവ ഉൾപ്പെടുന്ന മറ്റ് പോഷകനദികൾ തടാകത്തിലേക്കുള്ള ജലപ്രവാഹത്തിന്റെ ബാക്കി 10% സംഭാവന ചെയ്യുന്നു.[11][12] കൈവഴികൾ വർഷത്തിൽ ഏകദേശം നാല് തവണ തടാകജലത്തെ പുറത്തേയ്ക്ക് തള്ളുന്നു.[13] തടാകത്തിൽനിന്നുപുറത്തേയ്ക്ക് ഒഴുകുന്ന ജലം വടക്കുപടിഞ്ഞാറൻ ദിശയിൽ[14] ഒഴുകി ഒനെയ്ഡ നദിയുമായി സംയോജിച്ച് ഓസ്‌വെഗോ നദി രൂപപ്പെടുന്ന സെനെക നദിയിലേക്ക് എത്തുകയും അന്തിമമായി ഒണ്ടാറിയോ തടാകത്തിൽ പതിക്കുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നു.[15]
