ആദ്യകാലജീവിതം[തിരുത്തുക]

1942 ഏപ്രിൽ 24 ന് ന്യൂയോർക്കിലെ ബ്രൂക്ലിനിൽ ഡയാനയുടെയും (ജനനം ഐഡ റോസൻ) ഇമ്മാനുവൽ സ്ട്രീസന്റിന്റെയും മകളായി സ്ട്രീസന്റ് ജനിച്ചു. അമ്മ ചെറുപ്പത്തിൽ സോപ്രാനോ ഗായികയായിരുന്നതിനാൽ സംഗീതത്തിൽ ഒരു കരിയർ പരിഗണിച്ചിരുന്നുവെങ്കിലും പിന്നീട് ഒരു സ്കൂൾ സെക്രട്ടറിയായി.[18] അവളുടെ പിതാവ് അതേ സ്കൂളിൽ ഒരു ഹൈസ്കൂൾ അദ്ധ്യാപകനായിരുന്നു.[19]സ്ട്രീസന്റിന്റെ കുടുംബം ജൂതന്മാരായിരുന്നു.[20][21][22] അവളുടെ പിതൃവഴിയിലുള്ള മുത്തച്ഛനും മുത്തശ്ശിയും ഗലീഷ്യയിൽ നിന്ന് (പോളണ്ട്-ഉക്രെയ്ൻ) കുടിയേറിവന്നവരും മാതൃവഴിയിലുള്ള മുത്തച്ഛനും മുത്തശ്ശിയും റഷ്യൻ സാമ്രാജ്യത്തിൽ നിന്നുള്ളവരും ആയിരുന്നു. അവളുടെ മുത്തച്ഛൻ ഒരു കാന്ററായിരുന്നു.[23][24]
