ഇന്തോനേഷ്യയിലെ സുമാത്ര ദ്വീപിൽ ആണ് സുമാത്രൻ കടുവകളെ (Panthera tigris sumatran) കണ്ടുവരുന്നത്. ഐ.യു.സി.എൻ 2008 ലെ കണെക്കെടുപ്പു പ്രകാരം 441 മുതൽ 679 എണ്ണമെങ്കിലും ഉണ്ടാകും.^[1]

സുമാത്രൻ കടുവകൾ, ഏറ്റവും ചെറിയ കടുവകളുടെ ഉപവർഗ്ഗത്തിലൊന്നാണ്. ആൺകടുവയുടെ ഭാരം 100 മുതൽ 140 കി.ഗ്രാം വരെയുണ്ടാകും.^[2]
