ഇന്ത്യൻ ഹോക്കി താരമായിരുന്നു ശങ്കർ ലക്ഷ്മൺ (ജൂലൈ 7, 1933 - ഏപ്രിൽ 29, 2006) 1956, 1960, 1964 ഒളിമ്പിക്സുകളിൽ ഇന്ത്യൻ ടീം ഗോൾ കീപ്പർ ആയിരുന്നു.ഒളിമ്പിക്സിൽ രണ്ട് സ്വർണ്ണമെഡലും ഒരു വെള്ളിയും നേടി. അന്തർദേശീയ ഹോക്കി ടീമിന്റെ ക്യാപ്റ്റനായിത്തീർന്ന ആദ്യ ഗോൾകീപ്പറാണ് ശങ്കർ ലക്ഷ്മൺ. അർജുന അവാർഡും പദ്മശ്രീ അവാർഡും ഇന്ത്യൻ സർക്കാരിനു ലഭിച്ച ആദ്യ ഗോൾ കീപ്പറും ഇദ്ദേഹമാണ്[7] . 1966 ഏഷ്യൻ ഗെയിംസിൽ സ്വർണം നേടിയ ഇന്ത്യൻ ടീമിന്റെ നായകനായിരുന്നു അദ്ദേഹം. 1968 ലെ ഒളിമ്പിക്സിനു വേണ്ടിയുള്ള സെലക്ഷൻ നഷ്ടമായതിനുശേഷം ലക്ഷ്മണൻ ഹോക്കിയിൽ നിന്ന് പിന്മാറി. മറാഠി ലൈറ്റ് ഇൻഫൻട്രി ക്യാപ്റ്റനായി 1979 ൽ സൈന്യത്തിൽ നിന്ന് വിരമിച്ചു[8]. കാലിന്റെ അസുഖത്തെ തുടർന്ന് മധ്യപ്രദേശിലെ മോവിൽ (Mhow) 2006 ൽ മരിച്ചു.
