ലോകത്തിലെ വിവിധയിനം തത്തകളിൽ ഏറ്റവും കൂടുതലായി കാണപ്പെടുന്ന ഒരു ഇനമാണ് മോതിരത്തത്ത. നാട്ടുതത്ത, വാലൻതത്ത, പഞ്ചവർണ്ണതത്ത (പഞ്ചവർണ്ണക്കിളി) എന്നും ഇവ അറിയപ്പെടുന്നു.[2][3][4][5] കൊക്കിന്റെ നിറം ചുകപ്പാണെങ്കിലും കൊക്കിന്റെ അവസാനമായി ഒരു കറുത്തവര അതിരായി നിൽക്കുന്നു. കഴുത്തിനെ ചുറ്റി പോകുന്ന ഒരു കറുത്ത വളയവും അതിനു തൊട്ടു താഴേയായി ഒരു ഇളംചുമപ്പ് വര പൂവന്റെ ലക്ഷണമാണ് .പെണ്ണിനു ഈ വളയങ്ങൾക്കു പകരം ഇളമ്പച്ച നിറത്തിലുള്ള വളയമാകും കാണുക. മുകൾ വശത്തെ നീലയും അടിവശത്തെ മഞ്ഞയുള്ള വാലുമൊഴിച്ചാൽ മുഴുവനും പച്ചനിറമാണ്. കുഞ്ഞുങ്ങൾക്കും കറുത്തവളയം കാണുകയില്ല.
