വംശനാശത്തിന്റെ വക്കിലെത്തിയ ഒരു തത്തയാണ് മഞ്ഞച്ചെവിയൻ തത്ത(Yellow-Eared Parrot). ഇത് കൊളംബിയയിലും ഇക്വഡോറിലും മാത്രമാണ് കണ്ടുവരുന്നത്. ഈ തത്തകൾ കൂട് കൂട്ടുന്നത് Wax palms എന്ന പന മരങ്ങളിൽ മാത്രമാണ്. ആ മരങ്ങൾ വരെ ഇന്ന് വംശനാശ ഭീഷണി നേരിടുന്നു.
ആവാസം[തിരുത്തുക]
സമുദ്രനിരപ്പിൽ നിന്നും 1800–3000 മീറ്റർ ഉയരത്തിൽ കാണപ്പെടുന്ന Wax palm മരങ്ങളിൽ മാത്രമാണ് ഇവ കാണപ്പെടുന്നത്. 1998 ൽ ആകെ 81 പക്ഷികൾ മാത്രമേ അവശേഷിച്ചിരുന്നുള്ളൂ . പിന്നീട് നടന്ന സംരക്ഷണ പ്രവർത്തനങ്ങളുടെ ഫലമായി ഏകദേശം 1,100 മഞ്ഞച്ചെവിയൻ തത്തകൾ ഇന്ന് ജീവിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.

കൂടു നിർമ്മിക്കുന്ന ഇണപക്ഷികളെ സഹായിക്കാൻ വേറെ ഒരു മഞ്ഞച്ചെവിയൻ തത്ത കൂടി വരാറുണ്ട്. ഇങ്ങനെ brood-helper സ്വഭാവം പ്രകടമാക്കുന്ന ഒരേ ഒരു പക്ഷിയാണ് മഞ്ഞച്ചെവിയൻ തത്ത .
