പോൾ കലാനിധി
പോൾ കലാനിധി(ഏപ്രിൽ 1, 1977 – മാർച്ച് 9, 2015) ഒരു ഇന്ത്യൻ-അമേരിക്കൻ ന്യൂറോസർജനും എഴുത്തുകാരനുമായിരുന്നു. അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ "When Breath Becomes Air" എന്ന പുസ്തകം സ്വന്തം ജീവിതത്തെക്കുറിച്ചും, പിന്നീട് പിടിപെട്ട ശ്വാസകോശാർബുദവുമായുള്ള മല്ലിടലിനെയും കുറിച്ചുള്ളതാണു്. മരണാനന്തരം ഈ പുസ്തകം റാൻഡം ഹൌസ് 2016 ജനുവരിയിൽ പ്രസിദ്ധീകരിച്ചു.[1] ഈ പുസ്തകം ആഴ്ചകളോളം ന്യൂയോർക്ക് ടൈംസിന്റെ നോൺ-ഫിക്ഷൻ ബെസ്റ്റ് സെല്ലറായിരുന്നു.[2] അദ്ദേഹം രചിച്ച ഏക ഗ്രന്ഥമാണിത്.
കാർഡിയോളജിസ്റ്റ് ആയിരുന്ന പോൾ കലാനിധിയുടെയും ഭാര്യ സ്യൂ-വിന്റെയും പുത്രനായി 1977 ഏപ്രിൽ ഒന്നിനാണു് ന്യൂയോർക്കിലെ വെസ്റ്റ്ചെസ്റ്ററിൽ പോൾ കലാനിധി ജനിച്ചതു്. അദ്ദേഹത്തിനു 2 സഹോദരൻമാരുണ്ടായിരുന്നു.[3] ഇവരുടെ കുടുംബം ഇന്ത്യയിൽ നിന്നും അരിസോണയിലേക്ക് കുടിയേറിവരാണു്.
സ്റ്റാൻഫോഡ് യൂണിവേഴ്സിറ്റിയിൽ നിന്നും ഇംഗ്ലീഷ് സാഹിത്യത്തിൽ ബിരുദവും ബിരുദാനന്തരബിരുദവും ഹ്യൂമൻ ബയോളജിയിൽ ബിരുദവും പോൾ നേടി. അതിനുശേഷം കേംബ്രിഡ്ജ് യൂണിവേഴ്സിറ്റിയിൽ നിന്നും വൈദ്യശാസ്ത്രത്തിന്റെയും ശാസ്ത്രത്തിന്റെയും ചരിത്രവും തത്ത്വശാസ്ത്രവും എന്ന വിഷയത്തിലും മാസ്റ്റർ ബിരുദം നേടി. പിന്നീട് 2007ൽ യേൽ യൂണിവേഴ്സിറ്റിയിൽ നിന്നും വൈദ്യശാസ്ത്രത്തിൽ ബിരുദം കരസ്ഥമാക്കുകയും ഒപ്പം Tourette’s syndrome - ത്തിനെക്കുറിച്ചുള്ള ഗവേഷണത്തിൽ Lewis H. Nahum അവാർഡും നേടി.[4]
2013 മെയ് മാസത്തിൽ പോൾ കലാനിധി ഗൌരവകരമായ ശ്വാസകോശാർബുദബാധിതനായി[5] . 2015 മാർച്ചിൽ അദ്ദേഹം അന്തരിച്ചു.[6]
