പാത്തക്കൊക്കൻ ആള യ്ക്ക് ഇംഗ്ലീഷിൽ gull-billed ternഎന്നാണു പേര്. ശസ്ത്രീയ നാമം Gelochelidon niloticaഎന്നാണ്. എന്നാൽ മുമ്പ്Sterna nilotica എന്നായിരുന്നു.
രൂപ വിവരണം[തിരുത്തുക]
സാമാന്യം വലിയ ആളയാണ്. ചെറിയ തടിച്ച കൊക്കുംവീതിയുള്ള ചിറകുകളും, നീലമുള്ള കാലുകളും, ഇവയെ തിരിച്ചറിയാൻ എളുപ്പമാക്കുന്നു. 33-42 സെ.മീ.നീളം 76-91 സെ.മീ. ചിറകു വിരിപ്പ്[2] തൂക്കം 150-292 ഗ്രാം തൂക്കമുണ്ടാകും.[3]
കണ്ണിലൂടെ കറുത്ത അടയാളമുണ്ട്.
ദക്ഷിണ യൂറോപ്പ്, പ്പൂർവ ഏഷ്യ, വടക്കെ അമേരിക്ക,ആസ്ത്രേലിയ തുടങ്ങി ലോകത്തിന്റെ മിതശീതോഷ്ണ പ്രദേശങ്ങളിൽ പ്രജനനം നടത്തുന്നു. വടക്കുഭാഗത്ത് പ്രജനനം നടത്തുന്നവ ആഫ്രിക്ക, കരീബിയൻ,തെക്കേ അമേരിക്കയുടെ വടക്കുഭാഗം തെക്കൻ ഏഷ്യ , ന്യൂസിലാന്റ്എന്നിവിടങ്ങളിലേക്ക് ദേശാടനം നടത്തുന്നു. .
വൈവിധ്യമാർന്ന ഭക്ഷണംമാണ് ഇവയുടേത്. പറക്കുമ്പോൾ പ്രാണികളും സസ്തനികളും ചെറിയ പക്ഷികളും പക്ഷികുഞ്ഞുങ്ങളും ഭക്ഷണമാകുന്നു.റോഡിൽ ചത്തുകിടക്കുന്ന തുമ്പികളെ ഭക്ഷിക്കുന്നത് കണ്ടിട്ടൂണ്ട്.[4]
