മൈനയുടെ വലിപ്പമുള്ള പൂത്താങ്കിരിവർഗ്ഗക്കാരനായ ഒരിനം പക്ഷിയാണ് ചാരച്ചിലപ്പൻ (Turdoides malcolmi). ഇന്ത്യയിലും പശ്ചിമ നേപ്പാളിലുമായി കണ്ടുവരുന്ന ഈ പക്ഷി കേരളത്തിൽ അപൂർവ്വമാണ്. വരണ്ട കാലാവസ്ഥയിലുള്ള കുറ്റിക്കാടുകളും കാടുകളിലെ തുറസായപ്രദേശങ്ങളും പുൽമേടുകളും ആണ് പ്രധാന ആവാസവ്യവസ്ഥകൾ. ഇന്ത്യൻ ഉപഭൂഖണ്ഡത്തിൽ കണ്ടുവരുന്ന ചിലപ്പൻ പക്ഷികളിൽ ഏറ്റവും വലിയ ഇനങ്ങളാണിവ
