ഹോങ്കോംഗ് പരിസ്ഥിതി പ്രവർത്തകയും ഹോങ്കോംഗ് യൂണിവേഴ്‌സിറ്റി സ്റ്റുഡന്റ്‌സ് യൂണിയന്റെ (2000) മുൻ പ്രസിഡന്റുമാണ് ഗ്ലോറിയ ചാങ് വാൻ-കി (張韻琪). വോട്ടെടുപ്പ് നടത്തിയതിൽ ചുങ് ടിംഗ്-യിയുമായുള്ള സർക്കാർ സമ്മർദ്ദത്തെ സംബന്ധിച്ച "പോൾഗേറ്റ്" വിവാദത്തിൽ സർവകലാശാലാ നേതാക്കളുടെ പ്രധാന വിമർശകയായിരുന്നു.[1][2]

ഹോങ്കോംഗ് സർവകലാശാലയുടെ മുൻ വൈസ് ചാൻസലർ (എച്ച്കെയു) പ്രൊഫസർ ചെംഗ് യി-ചുങിന്റെ രാജിയിൽ അവർ പ്രധാന പങ്കുവഹിച്ചു. [3][4] 2000 ൽ യൂണിവേഴ്സിറ്റി ഫീസിൽ പ്രതിഷേധിച്ച ഗ്ലോറിയ ചാങിനെ "നിയമവിരുദ്ധ അസംബ്ലി" എന്ന പേരിൽ അറസ്റ്റ് ചെയ്തു.[5]2007 ഫെബ്രുവരി വരെ ഗ്രീൻപീസ് ഹോങ്കോങ്ങിൽ ഒരു കാലാവസ്ഥാ ഊർജ്ജ പ്രചാരകയായി ജോലി ചെയ്യുകയായിരുന്നു. [6][7] അവർ ഒരു റോമൻ കത്തോലിക്കനും കൂടിയാണ്.[8]

2014 ലെ അമ്പ്രെല്ല പ്രസ്ഥാനത്തിനിടയിൽ പ്രതിഷേധ നേതാക്കളും സർക്കാർ ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥരും തമ്മിലുള്ള ടെലിവിഷൻ സംവാദത്തിൽ ഏകോപിപ്പിക്കുന്നതിൽ ചാങ്ങും എച്ച്കെയു രാഷ്ട്രീയ പ്രൊഫസർ ജോസഫ് ചാനും ഇടനിലക്കാരായിരുന്നു. [9] റാഡിക്കൽ പ്രതിഷേധക്കാരുടെ സംഘട്ടനപരവും നിസ്സഹകരണവുമായ സമീപനത്തെ അവർ എതിർക്കുകയും ഇരുവശത്തും ചർച്ചയ്ക്കും വിട്ടുവീഴ്ചയ്ക്കും ആഹ്വാനം ചെയ്യുകയും ചെയ്തു.
