സിറിയയിലെ മംലൂക്ക് കാലഘട്ടത്തിൽ വളരെയധികം സ്വാധീനം ചെലുത്തിയ ചരിത്രകാരനും പണ്ഡിതനുമായിരുന്നു അബു അൽ ഫിദാ-ഇമാദുദ്ദീൻ ഇസ്‌മഈൽ ഇബ്‌നു കഥീർ ഉമർ ഇബ്‌നു കഥീർ അൽ ഖുറാശി അൽ ദിമഷ്ഖി ( إسماعيل بن عمر بن كثير القرشي الدمشقي أبو الفداء عماد الدين ; c. 1300 - 1373) എന്ന ഇബ്‌നു കഥീർ ( ابن كثير ). തഫ്‌സീർ, ഫിഖ്‌ഹ് എന്നിവയിൽ വിദഗ്ദപണ്ഡിതനായ അദ്ദേഹം അൽ ബിദായ വൽ നിഹായ എന്ന പേരിൽ പതിനാല് വാള്യങ്ങളുള്ള ചരിത്രഗ്രന്ഥം ഉൾപ്പെടെ നിരവധി രചനകൾ നടത്തി.[1][2]
ജീവിതരേഖ[തിരുത്തുക]
ദമാസ്കസിനടുത്ത് ബുസ്ര നഗരത്തിനടുത്ത ഒരു ഗ്രാമത്തിൽ 1300-ൽ[3] (ഹിജ്റ വർഷം 701-ൽ) അബുൽ ഫിദ ഇസ്‌മഈൽ ബിൻ ഉമർ ബിൻ കഥീർ എന്ന പേരിൽ ജനിച്ച ഇബ്‌നു കഥീർ, ഇമാദുദ്ദീൻ എന്ന വിശേഷണത്താൽ അറിയപ്പെട്ടു വന്നു. ഖുറൈശ് ഗോത്രത്തിന്റെ പിൻതലമുറയിൽ വരുന്നതു കൊണ്ട് അൽ ഖുറാശ് എന്ന് പേരിനോടൊപ്പം ചേർക്കപ്പെട്ടു. ഇബ്‌നു തൈമിയ്യ, ദഹബി എന്നീ അധ്യാപകരുടെ കീഴിൽ വിദ്യാഭ്യാസം നേടിയ ഇബ്‌നു കഥീർ 1341-ൽ ഉദ്യോഗം നേടി.
അക്കാലത്തെ പ്രമുഖ സിറിയൻ പണ്ഡിതനായിരുന്ന അൽ മിസിയുടെ മകളെ വിവാഹം ചെയ്തതിലൂടെ പണ്ഡിതശ്രേഷ്ടരുടെ സാമീപ്യം നേടിയ ഇബ്‌നു കഥീർ, 1345-ൽ മിസയിലെ പുതിയ പള്ളിയിൽ പ്രഭാഷകനായി മാറി. 1366-ൽ ദമാസ്കസിലെ പ്രധാന പള്ളിയിൽ അധ്യാപകനായി അദ്ദേഹം ഉയർന്നു[4].
അല്പകാലത്തോടെ കാഴ്ച നഷ്ടപ്പെട്ട ഇബ്‌നു കഥീർ, 1373 ഫെബ്രുവരിയിൽ അന്തരിച്ചു[2][4]. ശൈഖ് ഇബ്‌നുതൈമിയയുടെ ഖബറിനടുത്തായാണ് ഇബ്‌നു കഥീറിനെയും സംസ്കരിച്ചത്.[5]

Ibn Qāḍī al-Shuhba concludes mentioning that Ibn Kathīr was buried 'next to his teacher (shaykhihi) Ibn Taymiyya'.
