അമേരിയ്ക്കൻ ടെന്നീസ് കളിക്കാരനായിരുന്ന ആർതർ റോബർട്ട് ആഷ് ജൂനിയർ എന്ന ആർതർ ആഷ്അമേ രിയ്ക്കയിലെ വിർജീനിയായിലെ റിച്മണ്ടിൽ 1943 ജുലയ് 10 നാണ്ജനിച്ചത്.ഇദ്ദേഹം ആകെ 3 ഗ്രാൻഡ് സ്ളാം കിരീടങ്ങൾ നേടിയിട്ടുണ്ട്
അമേരിയ്ക്കയിൽ നിന്നുള്ള ഏറ്റവും മികച്ച കളിക്കാരനായി കരുതപ്പെട്ട ആഷ് വിംബിൾഡൺ,യു.എസ്സ് ഓപ്പൺ ,ആസ്ട്രേലിയൻ ഓപ്പൺ എന്നിവ നേടിയ ആദ്യത്തെ ആഫ്രോ അമേരിയ്ക്കൻ വംശജനുമാണ്.1980 ൽ ആഷ് സജീവ ടെന്നീസിൽ നിന്ന് വിരമിച്ചു. ഏ.ടി.പി കമ്പ്യൂട്ടർ റാങ്കിങിൽ 1976 ൽ ആഷ് 2-ം സ്ഥാനം നിലനിർത്തിയിരുന്നു.ഹാരി ഹോപ്മാൻ,ഡയ്ലി ടെലഗ്രാഫ്,വേൾഡ് ടെന്നീസ് മാഗസിൻ എന്നിവ 1975 ലെ ഒന്നാം നമ്പർ കളിക്കാരനായി ആഷിനെ തെരഞ്ഞെടുത്തിരുന്നു.[1][2] 1980 കളുടെ തുടക്കത്തിൽ ഹ്രൂദയശസ്ത്രക്രിയയോടനുബന്ധിച്ച്രക്തം കുത്തിവച്ചതിലൂടെ എയിഡ്സ് അണുബാധയുണ്ടായ ആഷ് തന്റെ രോഗബാധയെക്കുറിച്ച് ലോകത്തോട് പറയുന്നത് 1992 ൽ ആണ്.തുടർന്ന് എയിഡ്സ് രോഗം സംബന്ധിച്ച ബോധവൽക്കരണവുമായി ആഷ് പ്രവർത്തിയ്ക്കുകയും ആർതർ ആഷ് ഫൗണ്ടേഷനു രൂപം നൽകുകയും ചെയ്തു എയിഡ്സ് ബാധയെത്തുടർന്നുണ്ടായ ന്യൂമോണിയ കാരണം 1993 ഫെബ്രുവരി ആറിനു ആഷ് അന്തരിച്ചു.. 1993 ൽ ആഷിനു മരണാനന്തര ബഹുമതിയായി പ്രസിഡൻഷ്യൽ മെഡൽ (Presidential Medal of Freedom[പ്രവർത്തിക്കാത്ത കണ്ണി])നൽകപ്പെട്ടിട്ടുണ്ട് .
