പത്തൊമ്പതാം നൂറ്റാണ്ടിലെ ഓസ്ട്രിയൻ സംഗീതജ്ഞനായിരുന്നു ഫ്രാൻസ് പീറ്റർ ഷൂബർട്ട് (ജർമ്മൻ ഉച്ചാരണം: [ˈfʁants ˈʃuːbɛɐ̯t]; 1797 ജനുവരി 31, – 1828 നവംബർ 19). 600 ലീഡുകളും ഒമ്പത് സിംഫണികളും രചിച്ചു. അപൂർണ്ണ സിംഫണി എന്നറിയപ്പെടുന്ന എട്ടാം സിംഫണി ഏറെ പ്രശസ്തമാണ്. ഇതിനു പുറമെ ഓപ്പറകൾക്ക് സംഗീതം നൽകുകയും സോളോ പിയാനോ സംഗീതം രചിക്കുകയുമെല്ലാം ഉണ്ടായിട്ടുണ്ട്.

സംഗീതജ്ഞരുടെ ഒരു കുടുംബത്തിലായിരുന്നു ജനനം. ബാല്യകാലത്ത് ഔപചാരിക സംഗീതവിദ്യാഭ്യാസം ലഭിച്ചു. തന്റെ രചനകളെ ആദരിച്ചിരുന്ന ഒരു സുഹൃദ്‌വലയം എന്നും ഒപ്പമുണ്ടായിരുന്നുവെങ്കിലും ഇതിനുപുറത്ത് അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ സംഗീതം ജീവിതകാലത്ത് അധികം പ്രശസ്തി നേടിയില്ല. സ്ഥിരമായി ഒരു ജോലി നേടാൻ ഒരിക്കലും സാധിക്കാതിരുന്നതിനാൽ സുഹൃത്തുക്കളുടെയും കുടുംബത്തിന്റെയും സാമ്പത്തികസഹായത്തെ ജീവിതത്തിലുടനീളം ആശ്രയിക്കേണ്ടി വന്നു. പ്രസിദ്ധീകരിച്ച ചില രചനകളിൽ നിന്നും ഇടക്കിടെ നൽകിയിരുന്ന സംഗീതാധ്യാപനത്തിൽ നിന്നും അൽപം പണം നേടാൻ സാധിച്ചു. 31-ആം വയസ്സിൽ മരണമടഞ്ഞു. സിഫിലിസ് ആണ് മരണകാരണമെന്ന് കരുതപ്പെടുന്നു.

മരണശേഷമുള്ള ദശകങ്ങളിൽ അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ രചനകൾക്ക് ധാരാളം അനുവാചകരുണ്ടായി. ഫ്രാൻസ് ലിസ്റ്റ്, റോബർട്ട് ഷൂമാൻ, ഫെലിക്സ് മെൻഡൽസൺ തുടങ്ങിയ സംഗീതജ്ഞരും സംഗീതശാസ്ത്രജ്ഞനായ ജോർജ് ഗ്രോവും അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ രചനകൾ കണ്ടെടുക്കുകയും ശേഖരിക്കുകയും പ്രശസ്തമാക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു. പാശ്ചാത്യസംഗീതജ്ഞരിൽ മഹത്തായ സ്ഥാനം ഇന്ന് ഷൂബർട്ടിന് കൽപിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു.
