കേരളത്തിലെ നാട്ടിൻപുറങ്ങളിലെ തോടുകളിലും കുളങ്ങളിലും കോൾനിലങ്ങളിലും കണ്ടുവരുന്ന ഒരു മത്സ്യമാണ് വയമ്പ് (Attentive carplet). (ശാസ്ത്രീയനാമം: Amblypharyngodon melettinus). വലിയ കണ്ണുകളും മുകളിലേക്ക് തുറന്നുള്ള വായുമാണ് ഇവയുടെ പ്രത്യേകത. മീശരോമങ്ങളില്ലാത്ത ഒരു മത്സ്യമാണ്. ചെതുമ്പലുകൾ വളരെ ചെറുതുമാണ്. ശരാശരി നീളം 8 സെന്റിമീറ്റർ. മുതുകു് വശം പച്ച/ഒലീവ് നിറത്തിലുള്ളതാണ്. തിളങ്ങുന്ന മരതക രേഖ പാർശ്വങ്ങളുടെ മധ്യഭാഗത്തുകൂടെ കടന്നുപോകുന്നു. രേഖയ്ക്ക് മുകൾവശം സ്വർണ്ണവർണ്ണമാണ്. സുതാര്യമായ ചിറകുകളുമാണ് വയമ്പ് മത്സ്യത്തിനു്. വർഷക്കാലങ്ങളിൽ പുഴയോരത്തോട് ചേർന്ന് ഈ മത്സ്യങ്ങളെ ധാരാളം കാണാറുണ്ട്. വീശുവലകളിൽ കുടുങ്ങുന്ന ഒരു പ്രധാന മത്സ്യമാണിത്. അലങ്കാരമത്സ്യമായും അപൂർവ്വമായി ഉപയോഗിക്കാറുണ്ട്. ഇന്ത്യയിലും ശ്രീലങ്കയുമായി വിതരണം ചെയ്യപ്പെട്ടിരിക്കുന്നു.
