മുൻ മലേഷ്യൻ ഉപപ്രധാനമന്ത്രിയും ഇപ്പോഴത്തെ പ്രതിപക്ഷ നേതാവുമാണ് അൻവർ ഇബ്രാഹിം 1947ആഗസ്റ്റ് 10ന് മലേഷ്യയിലെ പെനാംഗിന് സമീപം ബുക്കിറ്റ് മെർത്തജം എന്ന സ്ഥലത്ത് ജനിച്ചു.പിതാവ് പാർലമെന്റിലും, മിലിട്ടറി കൗൺസിലിലും അംഗമായിരുന്ന ഹാജി ഇബ്രാഹിം. 1998 വരെ മഹാതീർ മുഹമ്മദിന് കീഴിൽ മലേഷയിലെ ഉപ പ്രധാനമന്ത്രിയായിരുന്ന അൻവർ ഇബ്രാഹിം പിന്നിട് അഴിമതിക്കേസിൽ 1999ൽ അറസ്റ്റിലായി 6 വർഷം ജയിൽശിക്ഷ അനുഭവിച്ചു.പിന്നീട് 2000 ൽ സ്വവർഗ്ഗ ബാല പീഡനതതിന് അദ്ദേഹത്തെ അറസ്റ്റ് ചെയ്ത് ജയിലിലടച്ചെങ്കിലും 2004ൽ മലേഷ്യൻ ഫെഡറൽ കോടതി അദ്ദേഹം കുറ്റക്കാരനല്ലെന്നു കണ്ടെത്തി വെറുതെ വിട്ടു. 2008 ൽ നടന്ന തെരെഞ്ഞെടുപ്പിൽ മലേഷ്യയിലെ വിവിധ ന്യൂനപക്ഷ വിഭാഗങ്ങളുൾപ്പെടെയുള്ളവരുടെ മുന്നണിയുണ്ടാക്കി മൽസരിച്ചെങ്കിലും ഭരണം ലഭിച്ചില്ല.ഇപ്പോൾ മലേഷ്യയിലെ പ്രതിപക്ഷ നേതാവാണ്.
