പന്നിയെ വിശേഷമായി ആഘോഷിക്കാൻ മാർച്ച് 1 ന് യുണൈറ്റഡ് സ്റ്റേറ്റ്സിൽ വർഷം തോറും നടക്കുന്ന ഒരു പരിപാടിയാണ് നാഷണൽ പിഗ് ഡേ.1972 ൽ നോർത്ത് കരോലിനയിലെ ബീഫോർട്ടിലെ സിസ്റ്റേഴ്സ് മേരി ലിനേ രാവേ, ടെക്സസിലെ ലുബ്ബോക്കിൽ അധ്യാപികയായ എല്ലൻ സ്റ്റാൻലി എന്നിവരാണ് ഈ അവധി ദിനാഘോഷം ആരംഭിച്ചത്.[1][2][3]"പന്നിയുടെ ഭാഗത്ത് നിന്ന് ശരിയാണെങ്കിലും പൊതുവായി അംഗീകാരമില്ലാത്ത ഈ ജീവിയെ മനുഷ്യന്റെ ഏറ്റവും ബുദ്ധിപരമായ വളർത്തു മൃഗങ്ങളുടെ കൂട്ടത്തിലുൾപ്പെടുത്താനും, അതിന് ഉചിതമായ, സ്ഥാനം നൽകുക എന്നിവയാണ് രാവേ ആവശ്യപ്പെടുന്ന ദേശീയ പന്നി ദിനത്തിന്റെ ഉദ്ദേശ്യം.
