ആഫ്രിക്കയിലെ സഹാറ മരുഭൂമിയുടെ പടിഞ്ഞാറൻ ഭാഗത്ത് താമസിക്കുന്ന ഗോത്രവിഭാഗങ്ങളെ സഹ്റാവികൾ അഥവാ സഹ്റാവി ജനത ( അറബി: صحراويون ṣaḥrāwīyūn എന്നറിയപ്പെടുന്നു. പടിഞ്ഞാറൻ സഹാറ, ദക്ഷിണ മൊറോക്കോ, മൗറിറ്റാനിയയുടെ വലിയൊരു ഭാഗം, അൾജീരിയയുടെ തെക്ക് പടിഞ്ഞാറ് ഭാഗം എന്നിവയൊക്കെ ഉൾപ്പെടുന്നതാണ് സഹാറ എന്ന പ്രദേശം. ഈ പ്രദേശങ്ങളിൽ വസിക്കുന്ന നിരവധി ഗോത്രങ്ങളുണ്ട്. മൊത്തത്തിൽ ആ ജനതയെ സൂചിപ്പിക്കാനായി ഈ പദം ഉപയോഗിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു. ബെർബെർ, കറുത്തവർഗ്ഗക്കാർ, അറബ് വിഭാഗങ്ങളുടെ ഒരു മിശ്രണമാണ് സഹ്റാവി ജനത. അറബി, ബെർബർ ഭാഷകൾ ഉപയോഗിച്ചുവരുന്നു[12].
പദോൽപ്പത്തി[തിരുത്തുക]
മരുഭൂമിയെന്നർത്ഥം വരുന്ന സഹാറ യിൽ നിന്നാണ് അറബിയിലെ സഹ്റാവി (صحراوي) എന്ന പദത്തിന്റെ ഉദ്ഭവം. "മരുഭൂമിയിലെ നിവാസികൾ" എന്നാണ് അർത്ഥം. ഇതിനോട് സാമ്യതയുള്ള വിവിധ വാക്കുകൾ വിവിധ ഭാഷകളിൽ ഈ ജനതയെ സൂചിപ്പിക്കാൻ ഉപയോഗിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു. സഹ്റവി, സഹ്റൂയി[13], സറൂയീസ്, അസെഹ്റവി എന്നിവ ഉദാഹരണം [14] [15] [16] [17] [18].
