ഉരഗങ്ങളോട് രൂപ സാദൃശ്യം ഉള്ള ഒരു കൂട്ടം ഉഭയജീവികളാണ് സലമാണ്ടരുകൾ. 655 ൽ പരം സ്പീഷീസുകൾ ഉണ്ട് ഇവയിൽ. ചില സ്പീഷീസുകൾ ജീവിതചക്രത്തിന്റെ മുഴുവൻ ഭാഗവും ജലത്തിൽ ആണ് കഴിയുന്നത് . എന്നാൽ മറ്റു ചിലവ ഇടയ്ക്കിടെ ജലാശയങ്ങളിൽ വന്ന് പോകുന്നവ ആണ്. എന്നാൽ പ്രായപൂർത്തി ആയ ശേഷം കരയിൽ മാത്രം ജീവിക്കുന്ന സലമാണ്ടരുകളും ഉണ്ട്.

[തിരുത്തുക]ഇന്ന് ലോകമൊട്ടുക്കും ഇവയിൽ മിക്കവയും വംശനാശ ഭീഷണി നേരിടുക്കയാണ്. പ്രധാന കാരണങ്ങൾ Chytridiomycosis എന്ന ഉഭയജീവികളെ ബാധിക്കുന്ന ഫംഗസ് രോഗം , വനനശീകരണം , കാലാവസ്ഥ വ്യതിയാനം എന്നിവ ആണ്.
