വാൾകൊക്കന്റെ ആംഗലനാമം Eurasian curlewഎന്നും ശാസ്ത്രീയ നാമംNumenius arquataഎന്നു മാണ്. യൂറോപ്പ്, ഏഷ്യ എന്നിവിടങ്ങളിൽ മിതശീതോഷ്ണ പ്രദേശത്ത്പ്രജനനം നടത്തുന്നു.
രൂപ വിവരണം[തിരുത്തുക]
50-60 സെ.മീ നീളവും 86-106 സെ.മീ ചിറകു വിരിപ്പും ഉള്ള ഈ പ്കക്ഷിയുടെ തൂക്കം 410-1360 ഗ്രാം ആണ്. [2] ചാര തവിട്ടു നിറമാണ്. വെള്ള പുറകു വശം ഉണ്ട്. നീണ്ടു വളഞ്ഞ കൊക്കും ഉണ്ട്. പൂവനും പിടയും കാഴ്ചയ്ക്ക് ഒരു പോലെയാണ്. പിടയുടെ കൊക്കിന് പൂവന്റേതിനേക്കാൾ നീളം കൂടുതലുണ്ട്..
തെറ്റികൊക്കൻ ഇതിനേക്കാൾ ചെറുതാണ്. തെറ്റികൊക്കന്റെ കൊക്കിന് വളവല്ല, ഒടിവാണുള്ളത്.
വിതരണം[തിരുത്തുക]
തണുപ്പുകാലത്ത് ആഫ്രിക്ക, തെക്കൻ യൂറോപ്പ്, തെക്കേ ഏഷ്യഎന്നിവിടങ്ങളിലേക്ക് ദേശാടാനം നടത്തുന്നു.< ref> and the Marianas.[3]
പ്രജനനം[തിരുത്തുക]
പുൽമേട്ടിലൊ മറ്റൊ ചുരണ്ടീണ്ടാക്കുന്ന കൂട്ടിൽ ഏപ്രിലിലൊ മേയിലൊ 3-6 മുട്ടകളിടും. ഒരുമാസത്തോളം അടയിരുന്നാണ് മുട്ട വിരിയുന്നത്.
