ഇന്ത്യയിലെ ഉത്തർപ്രദേശ് സംസ്ഥാനത്തിലെ ഒരു പ്രധാന ജില്ലയും പട്ടണവുമാണ് മഥുര. pronunciationⓘ (IAST mathurā)(Hindi: मथुरा) ഇവിടെ ഒരു പാട് ഹിന്ദു അമ്പലങ്ങൾ ഉള്ളതുകൊണ്ടും പൌരാണിക പ്രാ‍ധാന്യമുള്ള സ്ഥലമായതു കൊണ്ട് ഇത് ഒരു പുണ്യസ്ഥലമായി കണക്കാക്കുന്നു. ഡെൽഹിയിൽ നിന്നും ഏകദേശം 150 കി.മീ ദൂരത്തിലും ആഗ്രയിൽ നിന്ന് ഏകദേശം 50 കി.മീ ദൂരത്തിലും മഥുര സ്ഥിതി ചെയ്യുന്നു. .[1] ഈ പ്രദേശം മഥുര ജില്ലയുടെ ഭരണത്തിൽ പ്പെടുന്നു.

മഥുര ഹിന്ദു ദൈവമായ ശ്രീകൃഷ്ണന്റെ ജന്മസ്ഥലമാണ്. ഇവിടെ കൃഷ്ണജന്മഭൂമി എന്ന് ഇപ്പോൾ വിളിക്കുന്ന സ്ഥലത്താണ് ശ്രീകൃഷ്ണൻ ജനിച്ചത് എന്ന് പറയപ്പെടുന്നു. [2]
