സോവിയറ്റ് ചെറുകഥാകൃത്തും നോവലിസ്റ്റും ആണ് നതാലിയ ബറൻസ്കയ (Russian: Наталья Владимировна Баранская; ജനുവരി 31, 1908 – ഒക്ടോബർ 29, 2004^[1]). 1908ൽ ജനിച്ച നതാലിയ 1928ൽ മോസ്കോ സ്റ്റേറ്റ് യൂണിവേഴ്സിറ്റിയിൽ നിന്നും തത്ത്വശാസ്ത്രത്തിലും വംശശാസ്ത്രത്തിലും ബിരുദം നേടി. 1943ൽ രണ്ടാം ലോകമഹായുദ്ധത്തിൽ അവരുടെ ഭർത്താവു മരിച്ചുപൊയതിനാൽ തന്റെ രണ്ടു കുട്ടികളെ ഒറ്റയ്ക്കു വളർത്തി. അതിനിടയിൽ ബിരുദാനന്തരബിരുദം നേടാൻ അവർക്കായി. പിന്നീട് അവർ മോസ്കോയിലുള്ള പുഷ്കിൻ മ്യൂസിയത്തിൽ എട്ടു വർഷത്തോളം ജോലിചെയ്തു.

ആദ്യകാല ജീവിതം

1908-ൽ റഷ്യയിലെ സെന്റ് പീറ്റേഴ്‌സ്ബർഗിലാണ് ബറൻസ്കയ ജനിച്ചത്. അവൾക്ക് ഏകദേശം ഒരു വയസ്സിൽ കൂടുതൽ പ്രായമുള്ളപ്പോൾ, മാതാപിതാക്കൾ കലാപത്തിലൂന്നിയ രാഷ്ട്രീയ പ്രവർത്തനങ്ങൾക്ക് അറസ്റ്റിലായി.^[2] മോചിതരായതിനുശേഷം, കുടുംബം ആദ്യം സ്വിറ്റ്‌സർലൻഡിലേക്കും താമസിയാതെ ജർമ്മനിയിലേക്കും താമസം മാറി.^[3] ഒന്നാം ലോകമഹായുദ്ധം ആരംഭിക്കുന്നതുവരെ അവിടെ തുടർന്ന അവർ പിതാവ് ജർമ്മനിയിൽ തുടരവേ അമ്മയോടൊപ്പം റഷ്യയിലേക്ക് മടങ്ങിപ്പോയി.^[4] 1929-ൽ മോസ്കോ സ്റ്റേറ്റ് യൂണിവേഴ്സിറ്റിയിൽ നിന്ന് ഫിലോളജിയിലും നരവംശശാസ്ത്രത്തിലും ബിരുദം നേടി.
