ഇടത്തരം വലിപ്പമുള്ള ഒരു കുരങ്ങാണ് തെക്കൻ പന്നിവാലൻ കുരങ്ങ്. Macaca nemestrina എന്ന ശാസ്ത്രനാമത്തിൽ അറിയപ്പെടുന്ന ഇവ തായ്‌ലാന്റ്,മലേഷ്യ,ഇന്തോനേഷ്യ എന്നീ രാജ്യങ്ങളിൽ കാണപ്പെടുന്നു.^[1]

രണ്ടായിരം മീറ്റർ വരെ ഉയരത്തിൽ ഉള്ള മഴക്കാടുകളിൽ ആണ് ഇവയെ കണ്ടുവരുന്നത്. ^[3] ആൺ കുരങ്ങുകൾക്ക് 52.6 സെന്റി മീറ്ററും പെൺ കുരങ്ങുകൾക്ക് 45.3 സെന്റി മീറ്ററും ഉയരമുണ്ട്. ഇവയുടെ എണ്ണത്തെ പറ്റി കൂടുതൽ വിവരങ്ങൾ അറിവായിട്ടില്ല. ^[4]
