1858 മുതൽ 1907 വരെ നിലനിന്നിരുന്ന, ലണ്ടൻ ആസ്ഥാനമായ ഒരു ഒബ്സ്റ്റട്രിക്കൽ സൊസൈറ്റി ആയിരുന്നു ഒബ്സ്റ്റട്രിക്കൽ സൊസൈറ്റി ഓഫ് ലണ്ടൻ. [1]

ചരിത്രം[തിരുത്തുക]

1825-ൽ ആരംഭിച്ച ഒബ്‌സ്റ്റെട്രിക് സൊസൈറ്റിയുടെ പിൻഗാമിയായി, 1858-ലെ മെഡിക്കൽ ആക്ടിന്റെ അനന്തരഫലമായാണ് 1858-ൽ സൊസൈറ്റി സ്ഥാപിതമായത്. [2] സ്ഥാപക സംഘത്തിൽ ജെയിംസ് ഹോബ്സൺ അവെലിംഗ്,[3] റോബർട്ട് ബാൺസ്,[4] ഗ്രേലി ഹെവിറ്റ്, [5] ഹെൻറി ഓൾഡ്ഹാം, [6] എഡ്വേർഡ് റിഗ്ബി, വില്യം ടൈലർ സ്മിത്ത്, തോമസ് ഹോക്സ് ടാനർ,[7] ജോൺ എഡ്വേർഡ് ടിൽറ്റ്, സർ ചാൾസ് ലോക്കോക്ക്, സർ ജോർജ്ജ് ഡങ്കൻ ഗിബ് എന്നിവർ ഉൾപ്പെടുന്നു.

ആദ്യ 15 വർഷങ്ങളിൽ സൊസൈറ്റിയുടെ അംഗസംഖ്യ ഏകദേശം 600 ആയി ഉയർന്നു. ആക്ടിന്റെ നിർദ്ദേശങ്ങളിൽ മെഡിക്കൽ പ്രാക്ടീഷണർമാരുടെ നിയന്ത്രണം ഉൾപ്പെടുത്തിയിരുന്നു, മിഡ്‌വൈഫറിയെ സാക്ഷ്യപ്പെടുത്തുന്നതിലേക്ക് സൊസൈറ്റി കാലക്രമേണ തിരിഞ്ഞു. [2] 1872-ൽ അവതരിപ്പിച്ച ഡിപ്ലോമ "സാധാരണ പ്രസവത്തിൽ" മിഡ്‌വൈഫിന്റെ പങ്ക് തിരിച്ചറിഞ്ഞു. [8]

ഓവറിയോട്ടമി സംബന്ധിച്ച ഒരു തർക്കത്തിൽ, മറ്റ് അംഗങ്ങൾ എതിർത്തതിനെത്തുടർന്ന്, ബാർൺസ് വിട്ടുപോകുകയും 1884 ൽ ബ്രിട്ടീഷ് ഗൈനക്കോളജിക്കൽ സൊസൈറ്റി ആരംഭിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു.[4] ആ വർഷാവസാനം നടന്ന പ്രസിഡന്റ് സ്ഥാനത്തേക്കുള്ള തെരഞ്ഞെടുപ്പിൽ, അവെലിംഗിന്റെയും ബാർണസിന്റെയും പിന്തുണയുള്ള ആൽഫ്രഡ് മെഡോസ് പരാജയപ്പെട്ടു.
