മസാച്യുസെറ്റ്‌സ് ഇൻസ്റ്റിറ്റ്യൂട്ട് ഓഫ് ടെക്‌നോളജിയിലെ വിദ്യാഭ്യാസകാലത്ത് കണ്ടുമുട്ടിയ എലിസബത്തിന്റെയും (റോസ്) ഡാന്റെ അമേരിക്കോ ഡിഫ്രാങ്കോയുടെയും മകളായി 1970 സെപ്റ്റംബർ 23-ന് ന്യൂയോർക്കിലെ ബഫല്ലോയിലാണ്[8] ആനി ഡിഫ്രാങ്കോ ജനിച്ചത.[9][10][11] പിതാവ് ഇറ്റാലിയൻ വംശജനും മാതാവ് മോൺട്രിയാലിൽ നിന്നുള്ള വ്യക്തിയുമായിരുന്നു.[12]
